A. Comprehension Check: Determine whether the two events are dependent or independent events.

1) In a bag there are 2 red marbles, 3 white marbles and 5 blue marbles. Once a marble is selected, it is replaced. Find the following
probabilities:
a. P (white, blue)
b. P (white, white)
c. P (3 blue)
2) There are 7 purple, 9 yellow and 12 pink flowers in a vase. You randomly choose a flower from the vase to take home. Your friend
randomly chooses another flower from the vase to take home. What is the probability that you choose a purple flower and your
friend chooses a yellow flower?
3) Bag A contains 9 red marbles and 3 green marbles. Bag B contains 9 black marbles and 6 orange marbles. Find the probability of
selecting one green marble from bag A and one black marble from bag B
4) Two letters are chosen, without replacement, at random from the English alphabet. If y is considered to be a consonant, find the
probability that
a. both are vowel
b. both are consonants
5) If you draw two cards from a standard deck of 52 cards without replacement, find:
a. P (King first, Jack second)
b. P (face card first, ace second)
c. P (2 aces)
