Tutorial 1:
The teacher demonstrated a very effective way to organise learners, in turn, reducing the amount of time setting up cones by
utilising students to assist. In my opinion, this was a highly efficient technique whereby, the teacher used a ‘grid’ style format to
organise learners.
W/up in partners – throw ball to each other 3m apart Therefore 6 teams of 6 lined out 5m apart. 1 x person from Hand ball relay (1,2, and eventually 3 balls)

ball is to sprint to line behind them (15m away) and and has to kick the balls into other team’s square. 1 pt for a Move grid to begin zig-zag formations

Assessment:
During any assessment it is important to tell all learners exactly what they are getting assessed on. Always check the
weather and factor that in in your preparation (backup plan if required). Assessments need to be fair and equitable and
should factor in the learning area outcomes for the particular lesson being taught.
Part 1:
During part 1 of the assessment tutorial there were 2 games of 4 v 4 games played. One group were (standing between both
games) conducting the assessment utilising the assessment marking criteria paperwork (Blackboard). This was an effective way to
assess the 3-minute games of 4v4 (handballing, evasion, pickup, marking). During this time, it was difficult to assess all players
therefore only 2 players were assessed during this 3-minute episodes. An idea on how to assess more students would be to have a
camera set-up and filming the entirety of the lesson whereby the teacher can watch the footage at a later date. This is also good for
record keeping as well if required. Additionally, this type of assessment could run over a period of weeks so all students get a fair
assessment of skills demonstrated.
Part 2: WACE drill
During part 2 we observed students conducting the WACE drill and we assessed them using the assessment criteria
paperwork (blackboard)
We observed that the assessment of the WACE drill has some limitations.
- No left foot drill (just a cone with no explanation)
- Hard to assess someone if they do not receive a ‘decent’ kick, therefore, identify a student with good kicking ability and direct
them to kick the ball for ‘marking’ assessment purposes if required
- Lots of waiting around therefore, increase balls for participation
- Change of direction kick can be confusing for some (therefore changing the markers so it can be a straight kick may be easier
to assess
- Stagger learners to ensure a different person kicks to someone different each time
