Controlled Switching of Circuit Breaker and Its Site Measurement

This document discusses phase-controlled switching of circuit breakers and their application in power distribution systems. It introduces the composition and requirements of phase-controlled high voltage circuit breakers. Phase-controlled switching units can minimize over-voltages by closing or tripping circuit breakers at certain phase angles, replacing traditional closing resistors and reactors. The document describes the design principles of phase-controlled switching units, which use microprocessors to control circuit breaker operation timing based on voltage measurements. It also discusses requirements for circuit breakers used in different applications like transmission lines, capacitors, and reactors.

CONCLUSIONS

1 ) . The use of phase-controlled switching CB can

effectively suppress the switching over-voltage.
2). When using specially designed circuit breaker. and
combining with a phase-controlled switching unit. the
switching over-voltage caused by breaking shunt reactor
can be dramatically suppressed compared with by using
normal circuit breaker. The site test shows the over-
voltage can be suppressed lower than 1 . 1 p . ~ . .
