Getting Started
Before installing the V-Station, please do the following:
‰ Read both the Operations and Installation Manual (Documents included on the CD-ROM)
‰ Read the V-Station Operator’s Manual for instructions on using the V-Station from the keypad
‰ Install the VeriAdmin Software on a PC or laptop computer equipped with available COMM/Ethernet ports.
‰ Configure Veri-Series units with correct baud rate, unique Network IDs, and IP address (if using Ethernet*)
‰ Become familiar with the V-Station operation, especially enrolling users using either the keypad or the PC software
‰ Read the MV-1200 Product Notes – Release Notification.pdf and Veri-Admin Release Announcement.pdf files on the
CD for the latest updates.

Note 1: CAUTION, the silicon sensor used in the Veri-Series product line is an electro-static sensitive device. The EGND
connection on the back of the V-Station must be connected to an earth ground for reliable operation. Installing a unit
without proper grounding will void the warranty. Refer to the installation manual for specific information.

Note 2: The V-Station differs from other Veri-Series products in that the pigtail wiring bundle in the back of the unit has
been replaced by Weidmuller connections and RJ-11/RJ-45 jacks. RS-232 communication is achieved by plugging into
the labeled RJ-11 jack while the RJ-45 jack provides RS-485 communication. Note that there is also a physical switch
which enables the RS-485 jack. V-Stations are shipped with this switch in the default position of “OFF” and must be
switched to “ON” if RS-485 communication is desired. All ports including the AUX port on the bottom of the unit are set to
a baud rate of 57600 from the factory.

Setting Up the V-Station
‰ Install the VeriAdmin Software (included on CD) on a computer running Windows 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, or XP to
initially set up the V-Smart. You can install the template management software on your computer by running
“Setup.exe” found on the CD.
‰ Apply power to the V-Station through either the DC jack (12V DC) or the Weidmuller connectors in the back: connect
DC power (12.5-24 V) to the +(POS) terminal, and the power return (power ground) to the –(NEG) terminal.
‰ Connect the programming cable to the Aux port in the bottom of the unit.
‰ Run / Open the VeriAdmin software on your PC. Indicate which PC ports you would like to use, either COMM ports
or Ethernet* (or both).
‰ Now add units to the logical network tree diagram one at a time assigning unique network IDs. After establishing
communication and setting up your network, you may enroll or delete templates, broadcast templaets to other units,
store templates on the PC, and configure each reader as desired.
‰ Please refer to the Veri-Series Operations Guide for complete user instructions.

Additional Information
The biggest difference between the V-Station and the other Veri-Series products is obviously its keypad and LCD screen.
The product can be configured directly from the keypad and feedback is provided on-screen. Most operations which had
to be performed from the PC using VeriAdmin can now be performed directly from the keypad. Some of these functions
include:

9 Template management (enroll, edit, delete, etc)

9 Communications (ports, baud rates, network ID, Wiegand settings, etc)
9 Security (biometrics, global threshold, etc)
9 System control (time, date, transaction log, etc)

Not all functionality can be accessed via the keypad. Future firmware versions will add additional functionality but some
things will still need to be done via the PC using VeriAdmin software, such as transferring templates to additional units,
reading the transaction log, etc.

*Ethernet is supported in version 7.10 and later
