COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides an overview of the Computing Industry and Computing profession, including
Research and Applications in different fields; an Appreciation of computing in different fields such as Biology,
Sociology, Environment and Gaming; an Understanding of ACM Requirements; an Appreciation of the history
of computing and Knowledge of the Key Components of Computer Systems [Organization and Architecture],
Malware, Computer Security, Internet and Internet Protocols, HTML4/5 and CSS. . It also provides student
basic knowledge of the computer hardware components and operating system and basic skills in using word
processor, spreadsheet, database, and presentation application programs. Using the internet – electronic mail,
the world wide web and computing ethics– is also covered.

PRE-REQUISITE
NONE

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME:


1. Explain fundamental principles, concepts and evolution of computing systems as they relate to different
fields; Analyze and simulate results of algorithm that may be implemented as a solution to a given
problem.
2. Analyze solutions employed by organizations to address different computing issues;
3. Expound on the recent developments in the different computing knowledge areas;
4. Demonstrate basic skills with creativity in word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation applications
as well as electronic mail and internet and apply ethics in computing

1. Compilation of researches about IT Trends, Malware and Internet. (by Group).


2. Hardcopy of the synopsis of a case where organization addressed computing issues by employing IT
and computing technology. (by group)
3. Compilation of Laboratory activities in MS-Word, MS-Excel, and MS-Power point

GRADING SYSTEM

Class Standing (66.67% ) FG = (P + M + F)/3


Activity/Exercises 30% P- prelim grade
Quizzes/Test 20% M – midterm grade
F – final grade
Assignments & Recitations 16.67% FG – Final Average Grade
Major Exam 33.33%

Total 100%

Passing Grade = 75

Passing Grade Conditions: FG must be greater than or equal to 75.

CLASSROOM POLICIES
Consultation
1. My consultation schedule is every Friday, 8:00AM to 1:00PM. We will have our consultation
session via messenger. Please be on time and be ready of your questions and concern so that we
could go straight to the points and conserve some of the time for other students who are also
scheduled for consultation.
Class Sessions

1. The Schoology (rmmc.schoology.com) will be our official learning management system.


2. Wear appropriate or decent attire (If not in uniform) during our class session.
3. Let us treat each other with mutual respect. Let us respect diversity.
4. Turn mobile phones in silent mode;
5. Do not dominate other students’ opportunity to learn. Give other students the chance to
participate in class.
6. Children should not be brought in online classes. (For those who are married)
7. Turn all microphones in mute mode upon entry (during conference).
8. Should not leave class online to accommodate visitors or to do household chores at home.
9. Copyright Law, Fair use Act and Creative Commons matters should not be violated.
