Effective Voice

Effective voice requires speaking distinctly to be heard and understood, with a pleasing quality that engages listeners. Your voice expresses your personality, age, sex, and mental state. As a speaker, you must be aware of the quality of your own voice and any characteristics that could turn off listeners, such as being too high or low pitched, shrill, monotonous, dull, husky, or squeaky. Key aspects of an effective voice include appropriate volume, pitch, speed/pace, tone, pausing, phrasing, and emphasis. An effective voice is audible, pleasant, clear, fluent, and animated through changes in pitch, rate and force.

• Your first duty as a speaker is to be heard and

understood. It is not enough that you should utter
the words so distinctly that your listeners need not
strain their ears to catch the meaning of your
statements.
• You should also speak with a voice of pleasing
quality. Your voice is important in effective
communication and it can be your rewarding asset.
It is the expression of mental and emotional
condition together with your attitude during the
moments of speaking.
• Voice- the oral representation of words, is the chief
indication of your age, sex, and your personality.
• In the study of effective communication, it is
well for you to know the mechanics of vocal
delivery. The first thing that you should do is to
know the quality of your voice.
