Setting and Testing of Differential Relay using ETAP

1.0 Objective:
To learn how to set and test over differential relay using ETAP.
2.0 Learning Outcomes:
Understanding the concept of ETAP and Short circuit analysis to set and test over
differential relay.
3.0 Equipment Required:
a. ETAP Software
4.0 Schematic Diagram:

5.0 Experiment Procedure:

 First do the load flow analysis.
 After load flow analysis do the short circuit analysis of system.
 Now go to CT Settings and set a CT ratio of 200:5 as shown, also reverse the polarity of
CT1.
 Open Relay setting and add CB1 at its output.
 From library select Schneider Electric manufacturer and P521 model.
 Now in OCR tab, set the overcurrent and instantaneous values of Phase.
 Now do the same setting on 2nd and 3rd CT but choose B-8 as the Designation Class. Set
one of these CTs in reverse polarity.
 Open differential relay setting and add CB2 at its output.
 Now run Star-Protective Device Coordination analysis and put a fault anywhere on the
system by Fault Insertion button and observe the results.
 The relay will operate the breaker immediately to protect all other equipment from being
affected by that fault.
