How Rabbit Got on the Moon

In Mexico, when people look at the full moon, they sometimes see a rabbit. This story
tells how Rabbit got on the moon.
Long ago, Rabbit loved to eat hot chiles. He loved eating Bear’s chiles the most. Bear
got so mad that he put Rabbit in a sack and tied it shut. Bear growled, “I will cook you for
dinner!” Then Bear left to get wood for a fire.
Coyote found Rabbit. “What a good meal you’ll be,” said Coyote.
Rabbit smiled and said, “Coyote, you are just in time for dinner. Bear and I are cooking a
wonderful meal. Bear is getting wood for our fire. I am keeping the bread warm here in this
sack. If you take my place in the sack, I’ll get my guitar. I will play music while you eat.”
Coyote jumped in the sack, and Rabbit left. When Bear returned, Coyote knew Rabbit
had tricked him. Coyote chased Rabbit, but Rabbit used his strong back legs to jump high in
the sky. He landed on the moon, and Coyote could not reach Rabbit.
To this day when the moon is full, you can see Rabbit there and hear Coyote howling at

A Trip to the Moon
In 1961, President Kennedy told Americans
that he wanted to see a man land on the moon and
return to Earth safely. After this famous speech,
there was a race to be the first country to send a
man to the moon. At that time, astronauts had
flown in an orbit around Earth, but no one had
landed on the moon.
Then, on July 16, 1969, a rocket blasted off
into space. The rocket carried two spacecraft and
three American astronauts—Neil Armstrong;
Edwin Aldrin, Jr., and Michael Collins. The
rocket traveled very fast. At one point, the
astronauts traveled more than 24,000 miles per
hour! After they were up high in space, the
astronauts pulled the spacecraft away from the
rocket and headed for the moon.
On July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin landed a
small spacecraft called the Eagle on the moon.
Collins stayed in space inside the bigger
spacecraft called the Columbia. People on Earth
watched on television as Neil Armstrong took the
first step on the moon. Armstrong said, “That’s
one small step for man, one giant leap for
mankind.” Armstrong knew this trip would help
people learn more about the universe.
Four days later, all three astronauts returned
safely to Earth.

Most malls have stores that sell things, and some have places to eat. There are also services,
which are places where people do things for you, such as cut your hair. Some malls have
movie theaters and game rooms.
The world’s largest mall is in Alberta, Canada. This mall has eleven large stores, more
than 800 smaller stores, and 110 places to eat! For fun, visitors can ice-skate on the indoor
ice rink, play in an indoor water park, or visit animals at a zoo. This mall even has a hotel for
