16 March 2020

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

Our top priority is the health, safety and well-being of our staff, students and broader communities on and off campus.

Following President Ramaphosa’s address declaring the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) a state of National Disaster, we are
putting the following measures in place with immediate effect to ensure the uninterrupted teaching, learning and research in a
safe environment for all.

2020 Graduation Ceremonies

Our institution has 27 graduation ceremonies planned nationally hosting over 500 graduates and their families from all over
Southern Africa.

After due consideration, we have taken the decision to cancel all 2020 graduation ceremonies to minimise the risks associated
with large gatherings of individuals. Our graduates will not be disadvantaged as they will be provided with their qualifications
as per the scheduled dates for all planned graduations. All the same regulatory requirements to graduate will remain and must
be satisfied before graduation certificates will be issued.

Academic Programs

The use of technology to deliver our learning material is a unique strength and differentiator for our institution. Building on
our strengths, we have decided to suspend all contact classes at campuses nationally and move over to technology-based
teaching. All students are equipped with either a tablet or laptop with free access to Moodle that will allow them to continue
their learning from their home environments. Our academic teams will actively use our technology platforms to push learning
content to our students. We will continue to monitor the situation but expect students to be off campus until at least 14 April
2020. Any further amendments to the academic calendar will be evaluated and communicated accordingly.

We are awaiting guidance from the Department of Education on the status of external TVET DHET Exams scheduled for later
this month and will communicate to these students when more information is available.

Head office and campus staff will continue to be available throughout this period during normal business hours to ensure
ongoing support to all students

Students that do not yet have access to the Moodle platform or require assistance to effectively use the system should engage
with the staff at their relevant campus for further support.

Ongoing Communication

We will continue to communicate with all staff and students on an ongoing basis via our various communication
channels. Students are requested to ensure their email addresses and contact numbers are up to date. All students are
encouraged to follow the official Richfield (@thisisRichfield) pages for up to date announcements.
Stay Safe and Healthy

While I am sure most of us got a little nervous listening to the Presidential address, the good news is that as a country, we have
put good measures in place to manage the spread of the virus. It’s now up to each one of us to also do our part.

Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak by following reputable news sources such as the WHO and
NICD South Africa websites. Students can also contact the Government hotline numbers as follows for more information:
• National telephone number: 0800-029-999
• National WhatsApp number: 0600-123-456 (send Hi for regular updates)

REMINDER: General Precautionary Measures

Currently there is no vaccine for the coronavirus. There are no specific measures currently recommended to prevent
coronavirus, but the following can provide protection against infection with coronaviruses and many other viruses that are
more common in South Africa:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an
alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick
• Stay home when you are sick and try and keep distance from others at home
• Avoid social engagements
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
• Avoid contact with farm or wild animals (alive or dead), animal markets, and products that come from animals (such
as uncooked meat).

Please do not hesitate to contact your campus manager if you have any questions or need any form of academic support
during this time.

Kind Regards,

Stefan Ferreira
