WHAT THIS GUIDE IS ALL ABOUT

This guide is about helping students get an overview of the Computing Industry and Computing
profession, including its applications in different fields, it helps students develop appreciation of
Computing in different fields, the history of computing, the Key Components of Computer Systems,
Malware, Computer Security, Internet and Internet protocols, HTML 4/5 and CSS. The guide will be a
guide for your independent learning for this course. It directs you to read the material printed on
this guide. As needed, additional reading materials, video links for further elaboration on the course
are included. At the end of each chapter, you are required accomplish the assessment activity.
This guide is good for September 14 to 20, 2020.

INTRODUCTION

In this chapter, you will learn about what is Input, Keyboards, Pointing Devices, Touch Screens, Pen
Input, Motion, Voice, and Video Input, Scanners and Reading Devices, What is Output, Displays,
Printers, Other Output Devices, and Assistive Technology Input and Output.

After Studying this chapter, you will be able to:

 Differentiate among various types of keyboards: standard, compact, on-screen, virtual,
ergonomic, gaming, and wireless
 Describe characteristics of various pointing devices: mouse, touchpad, and trackball
 Describe various uses of touch screens
 Describe various types of pen input: stylus, digital pen, and graphics tablet
 Describe various uses of motion input, voice input, and video input
 Differentiate among various scanners and reading devices: optical scanners, optical readers,
bar code readers, RFID readers, magstripe readers, MICR readers, and data collection
devices
 Identify the types of output
 Explain the characteristics of various displays
 Summarize the various types of printers: ink-jet printers, photo printers, laser printers, all-
in-one printers, thermal printers, mobile printers, label printers, plotters and large-format
printers, and impact printers
 Identify the purpose and features of speakers, headphones and earbuds, data projectors,
interactive whiteboards, and force-feedback game controllers and tactile output
 Identify various assistive technology input and output methods
