A comparison and contrast essay focuses on how two items or texts are similar, different, or similar in
some ways and different in others. You can compare and contrast any number of items including
theories, events, books, or people.

What are the differences and similarities between life before and after Coronavirus?

Hook: In the month of December during two thousand and nineteen, a respiratory disease that
goes by the name COVID-19, or most commonly known as coronavirus, struck the Chinese
city of Wuhan and has now spread throughout the world, causing the world to shut down, & the
stock market to drop. Coronavirus is now a pandemic!

Thesis statement: Although there are various similarities between the lives of people before

and after this pandemic, there are several other differences that impacted the lives of people

before and after coronavirus.

Body para. 1: There are many similarities between life before and after coronavirus struck
planet Earth.

Support A: Life before and after coronavirus has stayed the same in the means of love between

people. For instance, People all around the globe still love each other even if they are locked in

their houses; and they express their love towards each other by calling each other and even by

zooming each other.

Support B: Life before and after coronavirus has remained the same in terms of education. In

these hard times, schools all over the world are allowing their students to study by a program

called “distant learning” and this has made breakthroughs in modern day teaching. Whether

schools are teaching by using Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or any other application; it is working

very well.

Support C: Life has to be the same before and after coronavirus in terms of people working.

Since the coming of coronavirus, most jobs have to be worked from home and people are

engaging in their jobs and pitting in countless time and effort because of the critical state the

people are in. For instance, teachers are now engaging with their students through “distant

learning” and because of their hard work, they are building the future of the world.

Body para. 2: However, there are many differences in the way life has changed before and
after coronavirus.

Support A: Life has drastically changed in terms of people caring about their health and

personal hygiene. Before COVID-19 struck the globe, people would usually cough or sneeze

without covering their mouths, some of them did not even wash their hands after using the

bathroom; but now, everybody is making sure to wear masks and gloves. Also, people now

wash their hands frequently and cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough.

Support B: People’s lives have also changed in terms of people greeting each other. Before

coronavirus, people used to greet each other in many different ways such as shaking hands,

kissing, hugging and many other ways. But due to the fact that coronavirus is present and very

contagious, many people greet each other from a distance either by putting their hand on their

chest to show how much they mean to them, or by waving to each other.

Support C: Many people’s lives took a drastic turn in terms of when and how to step outside

their homes. For example, before coronavirus, people all over the world used to go out of their

houses wearing whatever they wanted and whenever they wanted; but now, everybody is

obliged to wear a mask and gloves as protection for them and others around them, and if they

did not do as told, they will get fined. Moreover, many countries set curfews that citizens

should follow in order to reduce the spread of the virus. As an example, the capital of the

United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, set a curfew for citizens from six in the morning till 10 at

night and if they do not follow them, they will also get fined.

Conclusion: In a nutshell, coronavirus has changed the way we live in some areas, but kept

some areas untouched. While there are many similarities between life before and after

coronavirus, there are definitely several other differences. There is no doubt that the world is

facing many difficulties coping with the situation at hand, but countries and citizens must work

together to eliminate this virus.
