II ECE A
TUTORIAL 1 25 Marks

1. Fig. 1 shows that a silicon transistor with β = 100 is biased by base resistor method.
Draw the d.c. load line and determine the operating point. What is the stability factor?

Fig. 1

2. Design base resistor bias circuit for a CE amplifier such that operating point is
VCE = 8V and IC = 2 mA. You are supplied with a fixed 15V d.c. supply and a silicon
transistor with β = 100. Take base
base-emitter voltage VBE = 0.6V. Calculate
Calcu also the
value of load resistance that would be employed.
3. If for SILICON NPN transistor, the base to emitter voltage (ܸ‫ )ܧܤ‬is 0.7V and
collector to base voltage (ܸ‫ )ܤܥ‬is 0.2V then the transistor is operated in the
(a) Normal active mode (b) Saturation mode (c) Inverse active mode (d) Cut – off
mode.

4. Determine the Q-point and find the maximum peak value of the base current for linear
operation. Assume βDC = 200.

5. Determine VCE and IC in the voltage-divider biased transistor circuit. Assume βDC =
100 and IE ≈= IC.
