Interior. It that will help you describe the different layers of
the Earth as well as understand their characteristics.
You will also learn concepts that explain the
physical changes that it underwent in the past. This module
also consists of activities that will help you develop your
critical thinking skills to have a deeper understanding about
the planet where you live.

Crust
 The outermost layer of the Earth.
a.Continental Crust-composed of granitic rocks.
b.Oceanic Crust- composed of basaltic igneous rocks.

Mantle
 Where the most internal heat of the earth is located it is about 2900 km thick the
high temperature and pressure allows the solid rock to flow slowly.
a.Lithosphere- is the outer part of the mantle immediately below the Mohorovicic
discontinuity.
b.Mohorovicic discontinuity-usually referred to as Moho is the transition boundary.

earth.
Seismologist
 Is a scientist who studies earthquakes and seismic waves.
Seismic Wave
 Are the waves of energy caused by sudden breaking of rock within the earth or an
explosion.
Seismograph
 A device that measures and records the movement of the earth during an
earthquake.
Seismogram
 The record of an earthquake tremor by a seismograph.

Earth’s interior is made up of a
series layers that sit below the
surface crust. In order of depth,
these layers include the solid, but
flowing mantle, the liquid outer
core and the solid iron inner core,
which helps create earth’s
protective magnetic field. The layers
can also be categorized into the rigid
outer lithosphere (which includes
the crust and top portion of the
mantle and makes up Earth’s
tectonics plates) and
asthenosphere, the portion of the
mantle that is solid, but made up to
hot, weak, flowing rock.
