Activity 1 Question Paper Ec302

The document provides details of an open book test for an electronics measurement and instrumentation course. It contains 5 questions related to converting meter movements, calculating shunt resistances for ammeters, connections of ammeters and voltmeters, and calculating errors in voltage measurements. Students are instructed to write their answers on paper, scan them, and upload a PDF file with their name and roll number to the learning management system. The test is worth a total of 20 marks and lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Activity 1 (Open book test)

EC 302/ Electronics Measurement & Instrumentation

Date: 11.09.2020 Time: 1 hour 30 Mins
Max Marks: 20
Each question carries equal marks

1. It is desired to convert a 0-1000 mA meter movement, with an internal resistance of 100 W into a 0-100 mA
meter. Calculate the required value of shunt resistance?
2. A moving coil instrument has a resistance of 10 W and takes 40 mA to produce full-scale deflection. The
shunt resistance required to convert this instrument for use as an ammeter of range 0 to 2 A is ohm resistance.
If the coil resistance of the meter is 1000 W, a potential difference of 500 mV is required across it for full-
scale deflection. Under this condition, the current in the shunt would be.
3. Ammeter and voltmeter are connected in series and parallel respectively. Why?
4. The expected value of the voltage across a resistor is 90 V. However, the measurement gives a value of 89 V.
Calculate (i) absolute error, (ii) % error, (iii) relative accuracy, and (iv)% of accuracy.
5. A moving coil voltmeter has a uniform scale with 200 divisions, the full scale reading is 400 V and 1/5 of a
scale division can be estimated with a fair degree of certainty. Determine the resolution of the instrument in
volt.

Note:
Use any text copy/ loose papers/ A4 size paper to write down answers, after scanning create pdf file and
upload to respective section in LMS.
Write down your full name and full roll number on each and every page, top right side.
Save your pdf file like:
Example:
Name: Ram kumar,
Roll No.: 0905EC191000
Filename should be: 0905EC191000_RamKumar.pdf
