 Have you gone through the CRY’s website (www.cry.org)? What do you understand regarding
our approach to Child Rights?

Yes, I have gone through the CRY’s website. According to my understanding of its approach
towards child rights involves maximum participation from the members of the society. Involving
them, bringing them together can be the only way of bringing about a major change in our
society. I also believe that CRY aims at spreading amongst the youth by arranging for various
activities for them and also spreading awareness in the society about the rights of the youth.
Making the children comfortable during the activities is another thing seemingly CRY achieves
at doing. From my understanding I consider the approach adopted by CRY to bbe as involving
as it can be. This involvement can be through sports activities and also various camps.

B] Why you wish to intern with CRY (in 150 words)

For long, I have wanted to give back something to the people of my society. Young children and
animals are two groups of society that I wish to work for. While I continue the work I do for
animals, mainly dog, I see CRY as an opportunity to do something for the youth of our society;
spread happiness and knowledge. Through CRY, I aim at helping my best to reduce the evils of
the society toward children. Along with getting able to do something for the society, I also
believe CRY would help me in my development as an individual. As I have never been a part of
a NGO before, I would like to become a part of CRY so as to understand it’s working and the
problems it can face.
CRY is an extremely well doing NGO and I want to intern here so as to be able to do my part for
the society.

Note: To each of the statements below please write your response as either AGREE or DISAGREE
and further explain your position very briefly

1. Those with the ability to pay should have the right to higher standards of medical care.

AGREE,
Getting luxurious facilities while getting medical care is not something that should be restricted. The ones
who can pay higher should have the right to get better facilities. This doesn’t mean that the ones who
can’t should not be provided with the basic and healthy medical facilities as per the standards. One’s
inability to pay for medical care should not lead him/her to not getting proper medical care while, the one’s
who can pay higher should not be stopped from getting the services that might not be essential.

2. All authority should be questioned.

AGREE, if left unquestioned, it can lead to exploitation of power. Questioning authority helps ensuring
that it stays in the right hands and is not misused. Questioning authority can also prevent the people from
using authority for their personal benefits.
Questioning authority thus makes the purpose of authority more rigid.

3. Charity is better than social security as a means of helping the genuinely disadvantaged.

DISAGREE,
For an individual who want to do something for the betterment of the society, charity can be better. One
who doesn’t have huge resources to allot in the social security; charity can be a step closer to helping the
genuinely disadvantaged. Allotting small amounts of funds in social security promises no returns also
does not give an individual, the satisfaction he is looking for.
Charity can also help spot the genuinely disadvantaged in a group and give them the special care. Social
security has its own benefits but they can’t make it better means than charity.

Tick/ highlight the option which you feel is the most appropriate

. More than 50% of Indian Children are malnourished. What in your opinion is the main reason?

• Not enough food grains produced in the country

• Not enough job opportunities for all
• Children have become fussy about food
• Inequitable distribution of wealth

You find way too many drop out children in an area you are visiting.. you would….

 Build a school where out of school children can study

 Run Coaching Centres in the evening to educate these children
 Speak to the local Councillor/ MLA or Ward Member for the enrolment of dropped out children in
the area.
 Conduct public opinion building drives for enrolment of children
 Find out the root causes that compel children to be out of school and attempt to
address the same so that children can go to school

D] share you thoughts and views on a Child Rights Issue which you feel strongly about [
a write up of not more than 500 words]

Children of today are the youth and hence the bread earners of tomorrow, hence their
well being is of great interest to the society. To meet this interest comes into picture the
child rights. Child rights are today one of the most serious issues of the society. The
children of the disadvantaged section of the society live in adverse conditions. They are
commonly seen to be barred from their right to education which is extremely essential
for their development. They are seen to be working in unsafe areas, in exploitative jobs
and also in jobs that take up majority of their time. They are not given basic health care
facilities and are at times, even separated from a safe and healthy living condition.

Child rights in the society continue to be ignored. While the richer sections see them as
obvious and basic, the poor sections continue to find them unnecessary. Child rights are
ignored and violated by all the sections of the society. As the poor let them be violated
because of their conditions, the rich violate them to get cheap labour. Condition of the
children and violation of their rights are ignored by their parents. The parents believe by
making them work, they can improve the condition of their family; whereas in real, it only
creates a never ending vicious cycle. Thus, the first step for ensuring the child rights
should be ensuring the knowledge of these rights and their importance not only with the
children but also their parents. As child rights can’t be ensured unless there is someone
who believes in them as stands as their guardian. More than any government, any NGO
or any individual, the parents serve as the most suitable guardian of the rights of their
children and hence, their welfare.
Ensuring child rights can help give an insight to the children about the potential
betterment of their lives and hence, induce them to strive for it. This would thus
gradually lead to advancement in the society. It can also help them get out of the vicious
cycles of poverty and illiteracy. Being a part of the society and being amongst the
privileged sections of the society, it is our responsibility to ensure violation of child rights
around us and also to take steps to make the society a bit better.
