Pipe Calculation Report - Revised - 2
Calculation Topic
1. Pipe Wall Thickness Calculation from following conditions
1.1. Internal Pressure
1.2. External Load
2. Span Length Calculation
3. Pipe Stress Analysis from software simulation
Material FRP
Nominal Diameter 150 mm (6”)
Outside Diameter 160 mm
Inside Diameter 152 mm
Thickness of liner, Tl 0.5
Reinforced thickness, Tr 3.5 mm
Total Pipe Thickness, Tt
Tt = Tr+Tl 3.5 + 0.5 = 4 mm
Conditions
Therefore,
(100,000) = (1,000) (160 – tr)/2tr
tr = 0.796 mm
Check compliance
tr = 0.796 mm < 3.5 mm This thickness is ACCEPTABLE
1.2 Pipe Thickness by External Pressure Condition
Conditions
External Load over the pipe
- Gravel (Density 2400 kg/m3) 300 mm height (from the bottom trench)
o Volume of Gravel = (0.025147 m2) * (1 m)
= 0.025147 m3
Focus on 1 m length, the total load above the pipe = 60.353 + 155.2 = 215.553 kg/m-length
From
So,
Calculation deflection Type IV. Pipe analyzed as a beam fixed at both ends—uniformly distributed
loads.
Therefore, the recommend unsupported span length should be less than 3.098 m
3. Pipe Stress Analysis
Assume the worst case (No ground support under the pipe)
- The specimen has been drilled 4 holes with 15˚ degree of angle, every 150 mm per picture
below;
- Applied the load = 2149.185 N/m or 21491.85 N (total) along the pipeline
- At the critical point shows that the maximum stress is 15.359 MPa which is acceptable ( < 55
MPa)
