Iqra University is a private higher education university in Pakistan with main campus located at Karachi, Sindh and campuses at Islamabad and Karachi. Established in 1998 by the businessman Hunaid H. Lakhani, now it is considered among one of the best institutes in Pakistan.
Initially known as "Asian Management Institute", the institution was renamed later on to "Iqra university" on the request of the then governor of Sindh at the time of recognition from Sindh government.
It is chartered by the Government of Sindh vide Sindh Government Ordinance No.VI of
2000 and is recognized by HEC (Higher Education Commission). It has collaborations with foreign universities. It offers a diverse range of graduate and post-graduate courses as well as PhD programmes of International level in Management Sciences, Computer Sciences, Engineering, Education, Media Sciences, and Fashion Designing.
Iqra University is the sole university that has most number of PhD faculty in Pakistan.
All engineering programs offered are Pakistan Engineering Council Approved.
Its owner and Chancellor is a Pakistani businessman Hunaid Ali Lakhani. Vice Chancellor is Mr. Usman Esanni, Retired Civil Servant Government of Pakistan. Registrar is Dr. Syed Akif Hassan.
Iqra University has been ranked as top or first By Chartered Inspection and Evaluation Committee Sindh in March 2009.
