Assignment 4 Complex Engineering Problem PDF

The document provides instructions for assignment 4 on analyzing the effect of aspect ratio on a component using finite element analysis. Students are asked to: 1) select a 2D plate and perform a linear static analysis using shell elements; 2) apply two loads based on their student ID and outputs including deformations, stresses, and element forces; and 3) generate a 4-5 page report with the problem description, plotted results, and analysis. The deadline for submission is July 3rd, 2020.

Finite Element Analysis(ME422)

Assignment 4 / Complex Engineering Problem

Deadline: 03rd July 2020 (Friday) (CLO3 – C6)

Text Book: A First Course in Finite Element Method by D L Logan (5th Edition).

Analyze the effect of aspect ratio on the behaviour of the component (Reference Chapter
7)?

Description:

o Select the 2D Plate.

o Assume data, if some data is missing.
o Perform linear static analysis.
o Elements: Create 2D shell elements.
o Properties: Use PSHELL
o Loads: Consider your students id last two digits as load, second load should be
twice. Consider each load as separate Subcase (Use more than 1 load)
o Constraints: As given in the problem (SPC)
o Output: Print the following parameters;
 Deformations
 Stresses
 Von-mises stresses
 Element forces
o Results: Plot all results of the output and save figures with white background
(Deformations, Stresses, Von-mises stresses, Element forces)
o Report: write a report of 4-5 pages including;
 Problem description, material properties, Component dimensions, figures
of the plotted result, Graph, and any other important thing, etc)
o Submit the report (Soft copy) in proper way.
