Narrative Report on the Regional Training on the Critical Content
On April 10-13, 2019, I attended the seminar and training on the critical
content in Grade 8 Science held at Brentwood Apartelle, Baguio City. The seminar
started April 10, 2019 with the registration and a short opening program. After the
health break, Sir Jomar Palileng started his demo on Force and Motion. Followed by
Maam Candice Pawid on Mendelian Genetics. Maam Araceli Tamiray also
demonstrated on Earthquake and Faults. We acted as students during the
demonstrations. I had learned different strategies, activities and approaches on how
to teach these lessons. Such as the activities on the lesson on centripetal force.
On April 11, 2019, the same speakers as of April 10 demonstrated another

lesson on the same subject matter with different strategies and approaches, using
different learning materials and activities. Mam Candice for example uses group
activity, presentation of results, oral recitation and a written quiz. Mam Araceli uses
also “Crashing the aliens” in motivating the students in her lesson on earthquake and
faults, followed by a group activity, presentation of work, discussion, oral recitations
and a written quiz. Sir Jomar also uses another strategy in presenting his lesson on
forces and motion specifically on the Second law of motion by distributing a piece of
paper with different colours as his way of grouping his students. He signed some
paper which determines the judges who will be responsible in giving their comments
after the presentation of the different groups. The day ends by giving some insights,
comments and suggestions by the judges and the participants as well. Some says
the demonstrations are excellent only that the main observations are managing their
activities to finish it on time. Thus, others suggested that they should lessen their
activities to beat the time or they should limit the time for every activity.
On April 12, 2019, the selected participants on the training do a returned
demonstration on the same lesson. Sir Pretzer Labueng demonstrated on the Laws
of Motion. He started his lesson with a questions recalling the difference between
balance and unbalance forces. He engage the students with an activity on a rolling
object then He gave an activity on the Law of Inertia. After which, He let his students
present their output. A discussion on the activity and then a written quiz.
Maam Gritsca Focang demonstrated on Mendelian Genetics. She started her

lesson by an action song , an activity on assessing oneself regarding the law of
dominance, presentation of a video clip on Mendelian genetics, activity on comparing
dominant and recessive traits, illustration on how to solve monohybrid crosses. She
asked questions to generalize the lesson and she gave a written quiz.
Sir Oliver W. Sinong, had his demonstration on Earthquake Magnitude and

Intensity. He presented pictures then ask some questions recalling the lesson on
Earthquake and Faults. He stated his objectives by showing it in a power point
presentation followed by questions applying higher order thinking skills. He
presented a video clip presentation showing the difference between magnitude and
intensity. Next was the group presentation, clarification and a little discussion on the
activity and then a written quiz.
After these returned demonstration was the giving of suggestions and

comments for improvement. Some comments was the same as the speakers which
was on time management and the lessening of activities or providing time on the
different activities given. The closing of the seminar was done 7:00 pm so that we
can go home early tomorrow April 13, 2019.
