Tridosha Theory
Three energies/doshas
Vata is related with all the movement in the nervous system and whole body.
It is associated with the elements ether and air. If vata is balanced, it controls blood flow,
breathing, excretion, and mind related functions like creativity, speech, hearing etc. If vata is
functioning properly than physiologically mind is in harmony with entire nervous system.
Ether is the highest element before air. It is very subtle element and also called AKASHA and
SPACE. Air is second element after ether. It evolves from the AKASHA (ether). It is also
called VAYU.
Pain, thirst, Depression, Organ contraction, Rough skin, Cheerlessness, The sense of being lost,
Paralysis over entire body
Pitta
Pitta is related to elements, fire and water. It controls all the bile that is secreted in the stomach.
Hence, for the most part it controls over metabolism. By controlling metabolism, it controls the
transformation of over the body during growth.
Pitta Constitution
Pitta Constitution AGNI (Fire) + JAL (Water / Liquids) Elements
Fire represents energy and comes after VAYU (Air) element. Generally, it can be felt in the
body by warmness. You may have felt warmness in the body a few minutes after taking food
and body temperature is slightly increased because metabolic rate increases. This is due to
PITTA according to ayurveda.
Kapha is related with elements water and earth. It keeps joints lubricated, maintains skin tone,
keeps immunity strong, heals wounds, and provides strength to whole body. As it controls
joints, it is responsible for the strength of the complete biological structure of the body. It also
helps in maintaining memories. Kapha is also related to emotions. If out of balance, it can lead
to fatness, lethargy, jealousy, envy and greed.
Kapha Constitution
Our body consists of around 50 to 70% water or fluids. 2/3 of body water is Intracellular fluid
present within the cells. One third of body water is extracellular fluid present outside the cells.
These fluids represent the JALA manifestation in the body and KAPHA. The massy structures
like bones, muscles, solid mass of other organs represent PRITHVI manifestation in the body
and KAPHA.
In this method, the powdered herbs or a decoction of emetic drugs is consumed orally along
with a large quantity of a liquid, which allows the toxins and impurities to be expelled from the
body by inducing vomiting.
VIRECHANA
In this procedure, purgation is induced by the oral administration of certain purgative drugs.
Before Virechana and Vamana, SNEHA PANA should be done as a preoperative procedure
followed by ABHYANGAM and SWEDANAM.
VASTI
Vasti therapy involves the administration of medications in the form of liquids as an enema.
Vasti is of two kinds:
ANUVASANA VASTI is administered after the intake of food. It is administrated along with the
medicated oils or ghee with the help of specially designed equipment, VASTI YANTRA.

above the clavicle. It involves instilling medicaments in the form of juices, oils, or powders.
