Jose Rizal
To be addressed a HERO is a privilege but to become a National Hero is something else. There is that distinct
factor or a deed that an ordinary man has done which lasted longer than life. How you lived your life
differently and opposed the flow of life that conquerors should’ve taught you. How you proved that life can
be productive if we are only determined and we hold on to our principles just like how you have hold on to it
till your last breath.
Even in today's generation most of the youth still use your lines such as “Ang kabataan and pag-asa ng bayan”
or “Ang taong hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa sa mabaho at malansang isda”. No
matter how fast technology changes, the ideas and principles that you have imparted will always be
applicable and truly worth idolizing in living life. I would like to think that your decision to fight for the
freedom of our country represents that small spark of nationalism that inherently resides in every Filipino’s
heart, regardless of economic status. I realize that it takes more than one hero to save a nation. I know you
knew that before you were executed but that didn’t stop you from doing what you thought was right.
Wherever you are, wish on us the courage needed to overcome this new oppression that burdens us. Inspire
us to tap into our inner hero by being the best that we can be as we rise above natural and man-made
devastation and work to restore decency to our institutions. I hope we need not die doing this like heroes of
your time for the very essence of working for positive change is to enjoy life to the fullest, not a day short of
our destiny.
Let me just say, quite simply, my dear Jose Rizal wherever you are, in the hearts and minds of decent people
throughout the world, we will always think of you as a great man I hope you will continue your legacy and
reflect your image.
Sincerely yours,
