Lesson 3.7 Describe How To Keep The Hot Well Level of Condenser
The bottom area of the condenser is the hotwell. This is where the condensate
collects and the condensate pump takes its suction. ... The temperature and flow
rate of the cooling water through the condenser controls the temperature of the
condensate. This in turn controls the saturation pressure (vacuum) of
the condenser.
Set Points Of Levels In Condenser Hot Well
1. Generally we try to maintain hot well level at 0 MM or normal level.
2. If hot well level falls below 0 mm, normal make up valve will open and allow
DM (demineralize) water to condenser in order to maintain normal level. At
Low level this normal make up valve will be fully opened. The hot well level is
to be maintained to normal level (200mm). This is why because, if the water
level in the hot well goes below the desired level, the vacuum level increases
so that the low pressure turbine blades gets sucked along with the
steam by the vacuum pressure and if the water level in the condenser raises
above the desired level, then deterioration of vacuum takes place.
