• Airbus has certified ADS-B OUT DO-260B installation on all programs in compliance with AC-20-165A.
However:
• The FAA 14 CFR 91.227(c) requires an aircraft position availability of 100% along the planned route
• Additional FAA operational regulation referenced AC-90-114A providing operational requirements for operators to satisfy the
aircraft position availability requirement:
- Prediction Program to be run before the departure to dispatch the aircraft (e.g: SAPT)
- Predicted unavailability of aircraft position would lead to delayed departure or rerouting
- SBAS (WAAS) will not require SAPT : FAA recommendation to implement SBAS capability
AIRBUS has decided to develop MMR with SBAS capability on all aircraft program in the aim to be
compliant with AC-90-114A
• Exemption period granted by FAA to be compliant with AC-90-114A: from Jan 1st 2020 until Dec 31, 2024

• Principle:
Runway Incursion Traffic Alert System is an alerting function to prevent traffic ground SAFETY BENEFIT
collision - RITA provides an additional
safety net against runway
RITAS computes on real-time the detection of any conflicting traffic on runway during

ACAS X benefits
• UNAVOIDABLE IN FUTURE: When traffic density will increase, ACAS X will have to replace current TCAS II (due to a
high number of nuisance alerts). Also, ACAS X will then reduce the probability of unecessary maneuvers (SPO)
• SAFETY : ACAS X improves safety whatever the Airspace and whatever the situation (as it takes into account within its
logic all possible operational scenarios and all pilot reactions). Accuracy of intruder position is improved (with extended
usage of ADS-B) so that the logic is more efficient. It also offers a safer tracking of general aviation.
• COST SAVING: With ACAS X no need anymore for costy a/c performance simulations that Airbus needs to perform
each time a new a/c program or a new a/c version is created
• MIGHT BE INDIRECTLY MANDATED: EASA might mandate a mecanism to cope with today spectral 1030/1090 MHz
band congestion issue : only ACAS X (or Hybrid surveillance) can respond to such request
• COULD BE REQUESTED BY OUR CUSTOMERS: ACAS X could be requested by some airlines that operate in high
density parrallel runway airport (like San Fransisco: more than 4000 RA/year) as those airports could offer incentives for
airlines that would embed ACAS X their fleet (as ACAS Xo solves the issue).
• INTEGRATION: ACAS X does not require any change neither on Airbus Display nor on Airbus interfaced equipments
(plug&play). Manufacturers have already validated prototypes and can move to a single ACAS X product line.
