ENTREPRENEURSHIP
1.) Look around your barangay or your subdivision and choose a business that you are very
interested with. Cite the reasons why you are very interested with this business.
Ans. There’s a lot of businesses existing here in our barangay but the one that really caught my
attention is a Bender Shop. The shop offers bending services of plain steel sheets that are used
in constructing homes such as wall angles, flashing gutters, spandrels and they also offer selling
high quality roofs being imported from roofing plants. I saw how successful and in demand the
shop is today, especially that there’s only a few bender shops existing in the city so contractors,
engineers and laborers from different neighborhood places comes in here just to order their
construction needs. It also helped that the shop is along the main highway that people have to
pass by in going to nearby cities. The shop attracts many customers.
2.) Ask the business owner or the business manager if he or she is familiar with the concepts of
value proposition and unique selling proposition. If yes, ask where he or she learned these
concepts, if no, ask the following’
Does your business offer value to customers?
Does your business offer a standout product/service feature that competitors do not
offer?
Ans. The business owner isn’t familiar with the concepts of value and unique selling proposition
but when I asked why did he established the business he said that he saw the demand for it
because he is a contractor himself. The following are the answers that the owner laid when I
asked him about the two questions above.
The owner said yes because he himself as a contractor knows how the business works
for his fellow contractors. The shop, he said, addresses the needs and wants of the
customers given that he is familiar with the construction industry so he’s able to relate
well with their preferences when it comes to products and services.
The owner is confident that his shop is well known to people and is very competitive
with other similar businesses because unlike others, they offer high quality products at
its very reasonable price. He said that customers often go to their shop because it is not
as pricy as the other shops and it also helps that they offer fast transactions to orders
and as well as in deliveries that takes them only few hours or few days for importing
roof orders. The shop also offers discounts to bulk orders and is very friendly with their
customers.
3.) If the entrepreneur has already devised a value proposition and unique selling proposition, do
you agree with it? If you don’t, device a new one. Explain why these should be the appropriate
value proposition or unique selling proposition following the exercise done above.
Ans. The owner haven’t devised any value or unique selling proposition because he isn’t familiar
with the concepts but I can tell that he have a business plan that guides him in his journey to a
successful business. Even unaware of the VP and USP concepts I saw how the guidelines are
properly addressed by the owner. There are just few things I want to advice the owner to be
able to stay in track and expand his business.
To create pages in social media to further popularize the business and reach out to
more customers
To be open for innovations so that customers will be more attracted imn availing the
products and services
To stay friendly and take care of the customers to establish a strong connection
To branch out and reach areas that shows high opportunity availability.
