Consumer Informatics and Digital Health

Key from Chapter 1

Interestingly, there has been a significant change in the delivery and providence of medical

information over the years, owing to the shift in technology advancements. It is in the access that

patients have to medical care that they can, in turn, receive the expected and desired care, being

able to seek an interpretation of the procedures by the clinicians. Te questioning is in the event of

contradicting r conflicting care given from the one postulated in the resources provided in the

platforms provided. The aspect offers clients the power to manage their health and effectively

combat the conditions that they have.

Also, the aspect of patients getting to keep up with the latest and emerging trends is of

significance. It signals that their embrace of technology also aims to improve their health and

quality of life. Such aspects as wearables and applications in their mobile phones that monitor

their health prove their commitment (Edmunds, Hass & Holve, 2019). Moreover, it's access to

private health data that patients, especially those with chronic illnesses, improve their health

through surveillance, encouraging them to see people using technology for good.

It is of significance in self-care for individuals to know how to take care of themselves is a

significant takeaway from the reading. Most people believe that they can do nothing to prevent

illnesses, therein reluctant to take the first step in taking care of themselves. However, there is a

stipulation that patients having a change in their behaviors is the most crucial aspect of self-care.

In having an understanding of what ails an individual's well-facilitated by the improved

technology that sees to individuals monitoring their health, behavioral change can see to it that

procedural costs are reduced, having the patients improve their health through their ways of

living.

Additionally, medical care costs are relatively high that individuals wish that they could reduce

their contact with health facilities where they spend a lot. However, measures to reduce medical

care spending also arise is investing in the aspects of social care such as child care. With such

elements, a healthy population occurs with a reduced need for medical care. In people getting to

understand the essence of social care, they would save more while also having a healthy

population with a long life expectancy.

Personal Sharing Statement

Despite Consumer Health Informatics having health information on the consumers' hands, I

believe that the masses should first embrace communication while receiving care. They should

not have to speak up or inquire and comment on the quality of health care give, but rather, they

should have a culture of always knowing the care they receive. They should engage the clinicians

with questions so that after the procedure, they can easily explain the procedures or, instead, they

can further learn more in their time. Besides, clinicians' information might be excluded from the

information provided, thus having communication essential (Edmunds, Hass & Holve, 2019).

Open Question

How can the six categories of CHI tools facilitate a behavioral change of an individual if

the population that he is in does not allow for the behavioral change? For instance, the

individuals' position at work or the people around him do not make it easy to embrace the

changes aligning with their behavior?
