FAQ for Middle School Students/Parents: Part I

If my child is attending on the 2 day a week schedule for​ Middle School​, which two days will he/she attend?

● If your child’s last name begins with ​A-L, ​your child will attend his/her two days on​ Monday & Thursdays.

● If your child’s last name begins with ​M-Z​, your child will attend his/her two days on ​Tuesdays & Fridays​.

When will my child receive his/her schedule and know which homeroom they are in?

● If your child is attending school in person, either 2 days a week or 5 days a week, he/she will receive a schedule on
the first day of school along with an orientation session.

● If your child is attending 100% virtually and you still haven’t received your child’s schedule, you may do so Friday,
August 28th between 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.OR Monday, August 31st at 3:30 p.m.

When will my child receive his/her chromebooks and charger?

● If your child is attending school in person, either 2 days a week or 5 days a week, he/she will receive their
chromebook on the first day of school.

● If your child is attending virtually, you should have already been contacted with a pick up day and time.

● If your child is attending 100% virtually and you still haven’t received your child’s chromebook, you may pick one up
Friday, August 28th from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. OR Monday, August 31st at 3:30 p.m.

What time do buses usually arrive at bus stops?

● Buses should arrive at your bus stop anytime between 6:50 a.m. - 7:10 a.m. It would be a good idea to be ready for
pick up on the first day at 6:50 a.m.. After the first day of school, you will have a better idea of the best time to be at
your bus stop.
If I am bringing my child to school, where and when do I drop him/her off?

● You may drop your child off in the front of the Middle School building between 7:40 a.m. - 7:52 a.m.
● Students will remain in cars until a staff member takes their temperature and gives them the “green light” to enter
the building.
● Parent drop-off students will then enter through the front doors and will be directed to the upstairs cafeteria and/or
gymnasium.
● At 7:55 a.m. students will be dismissed to go to their lockers and then will proceed to their homerooms.
● Students will be in their homeroom before the tardy bell rings at 8 a.m.

If I am picking my child up from school, where do I pick up?

● Parent pick up is in the front of the Middle School Building beginning at 2:30 p.m.

● Your child will wait on the sidewalk until you pull up to the front of the building.

If my child is attending school 5 days a week, when is his/her first day of school?

● Monday, August 31st

Will there be band for 6th grade students?

● For those 6th grade students who have registered for band, they will have a band class if they are attending school
in person.

● Those who are attending virtually may participate in band when they return to school in person.

Will my child have a locker?

● Your child will be assigned a locker and may visit their locker 4 times a day (First thing in the morning, before
lunch, after lunch, and again at the end of the day). At the end of the day, your child will take everything from their
locker home and leave the locker door open. This will allow their lockers to be sanitized each evening.
Is my child required to log on at a certain time each day?

Your child isn’t required to log on at a specific time during the day. ​However​, we would like to​ suggest​ that you have your child log
on by 8:30 a.m. each morning and review any daily announcements or emails from teacher(s) and get necessary learning materials
(books, workbooks, etc.). This will also allow us to take his/her attendance for the day. We also suggest they log on to their APEX
account during this time. Below is a sample of a suggested schedule for grades 6 through 8.

07:30 AM​ - Get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, brush teeth, etc.
08:15 AM​ - Organize learning space, turn on computer/device, log into any accounts teachers are requiring for classwork. Check your
email!
08:30 AM​ - Review any daily announcements or emails from teacher(s) and get necessary learning materials (books, workbooks, etc.)
09:00 AM​ - Virtual Mathematics Lesson
10:00 AM​ - Virtual Science
10:30 AM​ - Independent Reading/ Language Arts
11:00 AM​ - Lunch and recess. Get outside and get some fresh air if you're able!
12:00 PM​ - Check your email! Virtual ELA Lesson
01:30 PM​ - Take a quick stretch and nutrition break
01:45 PM​ - Virtual Social Studies
02:30 PM​ -Ensure all assignments have been completed and submitted. Check your email!

Will students be provided a mask?

● Each student will be given 2 masks on his/her first day of in-person school. They will also receive a breakaway
lanyard to safely carry their masks while eating lunch.

What is my child’s username for their email account?

● Your child’s user name will be his/her: ​[email protected]​h.us

Where can I find out more information about the APEX virtual learning?

● We have recently posted an informational video of the APEX program.


What are a few of the chromebook policy highlights?

● Chromebooks must be fully charged before the start of each school day.

● Do not remove the South Point Schools logo sticker or the identification tag or barcode from the Chromebook.

● When charged fully overnight, chromebooks should keep their charge for the entire school day.

● Students are responsible for the general care of the district-owned Chromebook. Chromebooks that are broken, or
fail to work properly, must be reported to the middle school office as soon as possible.

● Do not lean or place anything on top of the Chromebook.

● Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g., pens, pencils, notebooks).
