Power Electronics Lab: Objectives

This document describes experiments performed on an AC static converter circuit with resistive and resistive-inductive loads. The objectives are to study the converter circuit with a resistive load (R) and a resistive-inductive load (RL). Measurements are taken of voltage and current outputs at various control angles, and control characteristics are drawn comparing theoretical predictions to experimental results.

Transfer characteristic of AC Static converter circuit with ohmic load

Measure how the root-mean-square value I α is dependent on the control angle in the range from 0° …
150°. The measurements should be taken in 30° steps. Calculate the quotients of the current and draw the
control characteristic of the DC current f(α) = Id(α) / Id(α=0).

Id(α) : DC current (averaged value) depending on angle.

Compare the controls characteristics determined for the ideal case (Theory) and for the measured values
as drawn in the fig. above.

Theoretical results

Id(α) / Id(α=0) = √ (1/π * (π - α + sin 2α ) / 2)

Id(α) / Id(α=0) ----- ----- ----- ----- ---- ---
