Power Electronics Lab

This document provides instructions for experiments on single phase full wave uncontrolled rectification with resistive and resistive-inductive loads. The objectives are to perform experiments with an ohmic load and with an ohmic-inductive load. The required equipment includes a 90V supply voltage, resistors, an inductor, a pulse form generator, and CASSY software. The experiments will produce time profiles of voltages and currents that will be analyzed.

SINGLE PHASE FULL WAVE UNCONTROLLED RECTIFICATION

WITH OHMIC (R) & RESISTIVE-INDUCTIVE (RL) LAODS

Objectives

To carry out the experiments of single phase full wave uncontrolled rectification “B2C with ohmic Load
(R)”.

To carry out the experiments of single phase full wave uncontrolled rectification “B2C “B2C with ohmic
- inductive load (RL)” connect the components

List of Equipment/Software

Following software/equipment is required:

 Supply voltage: 90 V
 Ohmic load: 200 Ω (2 of 100 Ω resistances in series)
 Ohmic- inductive load: 33 Ω (3 x 100 Ω resistances in parallel) and 50 mH (1 inductance in series)
 Pulse form: “Pulse”
 Bridge topology: “735 012 – 04 B2”
 CASSY Software

Theory

A full-wave rectifier converts the whole of the input waveform to one of constant polarity (positive or
negative) at its output. Mathematically, this corresponds to the absolute value function. Full-wave
rectification converts both polarities of the input waveform to pulsating DC (direct current), and yields a
higher average output voltage.
The average and RMS no-load output voltages of an ideal single-phase full-wave rectifier are:

Very common double-diode rectifier vacuum tubes contained a single common cathode and

two anodes inside a single envelope, achieving full-wave rectification with positive output.
