“Webpage bookmarking and printing”

Learning Objectives:

After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:

1. Learn webpage bookmarking and printing

Bookmarking webpage using different Web Browser

Google Chrome

1. Navigate to the page you want to bookmark

2. Click the Star button on the right side of the address bar.

3. Name your bookmark. By default, your new bookmark will have the
same name as the title of the page. Click the current name in the pop-
out window to enter a new name.

You can also edit the description by clicking on it beneath the name.

4. Modify the address. You can edit the address of the URL by clicking on
it in the pop-out window. This can be useful if you're on a subpage but
want to add a bookmark for the main site.

5. Organize the bookmark. Chrome allows you to browse through your


bookmark folders in the bookmark pop-out window. By default, the
bookmark is added to the "Other bookmarks" folder.

 Click the ‘Add to folder” button at the bottom of the bookmark

 Navigate to the bookmark folder you want to add the bookmark
to using the > and< buttons
 Create a new folder in your current location by typing in a folder
name and clicking "Create".

6. Show or hide the Bookmarks Bar. In Chrome, the bookmarks bar is


located directly underneath the address bar. It will display all of your
bookmark folders and bookmarks bar bookmarks. Clicking the >>
button on the far-right of the bar will display everything that doesn't
fit.
 You can toggle the bookmarks bar by pressing ^ Ctrl/⌘ Cmd+⇧
Shift+B, or by clicking the Chrome Menu button (☰), selecting
"Bookmarks", and then clicking "Show bookmarks bar".
 • If your bookmarks bar is showing, you can drag a
websites icon directly onto the bar to quickly add it as a
bookmark

7. Manage your bookmarks. If you want to browse, organize, and manage


all of your bookmarks, you can open the bookmark manager. Press ^
Ctrl/⌘ Cmd+⇧ Shift+Oor click the Chrome Menu button (☰), select
"Bookmarks", and then click "Bookmark manager". This will open the
Bookmark Manager in a new tab.

 The sidebar on the left will display your bookmarks bar and
folders. The newest versions of Chrome will also generate "Auto
folders" which attempt to group bookmarks together based on
context.
 Click the ✓ button to select multiple bookmarks at once
 Click and drag bookmarks to move them to different folders. You
can also use the "Move to folder" drop-down menu at the top of
the window when you have multiple items selected.
 Delete a bookmark by clicking the ⋮ button next to bookmarking
and selecting "Delete". You can also click the "Delete" button in
the upper-right corner when multiple bookmarks are selected

Mozilla Firefox

1. Open the page you want to bookmark.

2. Open Click the ☆ button next to the Search bar. The star will turn blue
and will be added to your bookmarks. You can also press ^ Ctrl/⌘
Cmd+D

3. Click the ★ to open the bookmark's details. There are a few different
changes you can make bookmark from this pop-out window

 You can change the name of the bookmark, which is is the same
as the page's title by default
 You can change the name of the bookmark, which is is the same
as the page's title by default
 You can select a folder for the bookmark by choosing one from
the drop-down menu. You can create a new folder by clicking the
∨ button and then clicking New Folder
 Add tags to the bookmark. Firefox allows you to tag bookmarks
with words or short phrases. You can then find your bookmarks
later by using these tags. Click the ∨ button to view all of your
tags

4. Toggle the bookmarks bar. The bookmarks bar is a way to quickly


access your most important bookmarks. It appears beneath the address
bar. Click the Clipboard button next to the Search bar, select
"Bookmarks Toolbar", and then click "View Bookmarks Toolbar" to
toggle it on or off.

 If your bookmarks bar is showing, you can drag a websites icon


directly onto the bar to quickly add it as a bookmark

5. Manage your bookmarks. You can open the Library window to manage
all of your bookmarks. Click the Clipboard and select "Show All
Bookmarks" to open the Library window to the All Bookmarks section

 Click and drag bookmarks to move them. You can select multiple
bookmarks by holding ^ Ctrl (Windows) or ⌘ Command (Mac)
and clicking each one.
 Right-click and select "New folder" to create a new folder for your
bookmarks. The folder will be created in your current location
 Delete bookmarks by right-clicking on them and selecting
"Delete". You can delete multiple bookmarks at once if you have
them all selected

Internet Explorer

1. Open the page that you want to bookmark.

2. Click the ☆ in the upper-right corner. Click Add to favorites. If you


don't see the ☆, click "Favorites" → "Add to favorites.

 You can also press ^ Ctrl+D

3. Edit the bookmark's details. You can change the title of the
bookmark and choose a folder to save it in. Click New folder to make
a new folder in the currently-selected folder.

 Click Add when you are satisfied with the bookmark

4. Organize your bookmarks. If you have a lot of bookmarks, you can


use the bookmark manager to get them all in order. Click the
"Favorites" menu and select "Organize favorites". If you don't see the
Favorites menu, press ⎇ Alt.

 Click and drag bookmarks to move them into different folders.


You can also drag folders into other folders
 Right-click on a bookmark or folder and select "Delete" to
delete it. All of the bookmarks in a deleted folder will be deleted
as well

Safari

1. Visit the website you want to bookmark.

2. Click "Bookmarks" → "Add Bookmark". You can also press ⌘


Command+D.

3. Select a location for the bookmark. The pop-out menu will allow you to
choose where you want to save your bookmark to. You can add it to any
of your folders or your Favorites bar.

4. Name the bookmark and save it. By default, the bookmark will have the
same name as the title of the page. You can edit the title before saving
the bookmark. ClickAdd when you're happy with the location and title.

5. Manage your bookmarks. If you have a lot of bookmarks, you can


manage and organize them using the bookmark manager. Click
"Bookmarks" → "Show Bookmarks" or press ⌘ Command+⌥ Option+⇧
Shift to open the bookmark manager.

 Add a new folder by clicking "Bookmarks" → "Add Bookmark


Folder", or press⇧ Shift+⌥ Option+N.
 Move bookmarks by clicking and dragging them. You can select
multiple bookmarks by holding ⌘ Command and clicking each
one.
 Delete bookmarks by right-clicking on them and selecting
"Delete"

6. Open the Bookmarks sidebar. The sidebar allows you to quickly see all
of your bookmarks and folders while still viewing websites. Click "View"
→ "Show Bookmarks Sidebar" or press ^ Ctrl+⌘ Cmd+1
.
Opera

1. Navigate to the website that you want to bookmark.

2. Click the ♥ button on the right side of the address bar.

3. Select an image for the bookmark. Opera allows you to select an image
to use along with the bookmark. You may be able to pick from certain
images on the page, or a screenshot of the entire page. Click the < and
> buttons to scroll between images.

4. Add the page to your Speed Dial. The Speed Dial is a set of pages that
you view the most, and appears on new tabs by default. Click the Speed
Dial button in the upper-right corner of the bookmarks pop-out window
to add it to the Speed Dial.

5. Select a folder for the bookmark. Click the folder at the bottom of the
pop-out window to select a folder to store the bookmark in. By default,
it will be added to the "Unsorted bookmarks" folder.

6. View all of your bookmarks. You can open a new tab with all of your
bookmarks and bookmark folders. Click the Opera menu and select
"Bookmarks" → "Show all bookmarks", or press ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+B.

 Click and drag bookmarks to reorganize them. You can select


multiple bookmarks at once by dragging a selection box around
them or by clicking the ✓ button that appears when you hover
over the bookmark.

Printing Web Pages

1. Click the menu button and then click Print .


2. In the standard Print window that opens, adjust settings for what you're
about to print, if necessary. See Print window settings below for
information on what settings can be changed.

3. Click OK to start printing.

Printer section:

 Click the drop-down menu next to to Name to change which printer


prints the web page you're viewing.
Note: The default printer is the Windows one. When a web page is
printed with the selected printer, it becomes the new default printer.
 Click on Properties... to change the paper size, print quality, and other
settings specific to your printer.

Print range section - Lets you specify which pages of the current web page
are printed:

 Select All to print everything.


 Select Pages and enter the range of pages you want to print. For
example, selecting "from 1 to 1" prints the first page only.
 Select Selection to print only the part the page you've highlighted.

Copies section - Lets you specify how many duplicates you want to print.

 If you enter more than 1 in the Number of copies field, you can also
choose whether to collate them. For example, if you choose to make 2
copies and select Collate, they will print in the order 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3.
Otherwise, they will print in the order 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3.

Note: The following settings are saved as Firefox preferences on a per-printer


basis

Print Frames section - If you are viewing a web page with frames, you can
select how the frames print:

out on the screen will print the way you see the web page in Firefox.
 The selected frame will print only the content in the frame you've last
clicked.
 Each frame separately will print the content from all the frames, but
on separate pages.

Changing the page setup


To change the orientation of the page that prints, change whether background
colors and images are printed, page margins, and what to include on the
printed pages' header and footer, at the top of the Firefox window, click on the
Firefox button, go over to the Print...menu (File menu in Windows XP), and
select Page Setup.... The Page Setup window will appear.

Note: The following settings are saved as Firefox preferences on a per-printer


basis.

Format and Options

The Format & Options tab allows you to change:

 Orientation:
o Select Portrait for most documents and web pages.
o Select Landscape for very wide pages and images.
 Scale: To try to make the web page fit on fewer sheets of printed
paper, you can adjust the scale. Shrink to fit automatically adjusts
the scale.
 Options: Select Print Background (colors & images) to have Firefox
print backgrounds for web pages. Otherwise, Firefox leaves page
backgrounds white.

Margins and Header/ Footer

The Margins & Header/Footer tab allows you to change:

 Margins: You can enter the width of the page margins for the top,
bottom, left, and right sides of the page separately.
 Headers & Footers: Use the dropdown menus to select what appears
on the printed page. The top-left dropdown box's value appears at the
top-left corner of the page; the top-center dropdown box's value appears
at the top-center portion of the page, and so on. Choose from:
o --blank--: Nothing will be printed.
o Title: Print the title of the page.
o URL: Print the web address of the page.
o Date/ Time: Print the date and time when the page was printed.
o Page #: Print the page number.
o Page # of #: Print the page number and the total number of pages.
o Custom...: Enter your own header or footer text. This can be used to
show a company or organization name at the top or bottom of every
printed page.

Click OK to finish making changes and close the Page Setup window.

Print preview

To see how the web page you want to print will look when printed, at the top
of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button, go over to the Print... menu
(File menu in Windows XP), and select Print Preview.

The Print Preview window allows you to change some of the options detailed
above. Access the Print window by clicking Print..., or the Page Setup window
by clicking Page Setup.... Click on the arrows next to the Page: field to flip
through the pages of the document. The double arrows take you to the first
or last page, and the single arrows go to the next or previous page. You can
also adjust the scaling and orientation (see above).

Click Close to exit Print preview.

Advanced tips

 If you want to edit the web page content prior to printing, you can use
an extension such as Print Edit.
 To print a single image from a page, you can typically right-click it and
select "View Image" or "View Background Image", then print using the
instructions above.
 Websites can set themselves up to appear different on paper to how
they look on screen, so don't be suprised to see some changes. (If you
see some colours or background images missing, see Print Background
Colors and Print Background Images above.)
