    WORK METHOD STATEMENT

    FOR EXCAVATION & BACKFILLING

    Project Name: Supply & Installation of Fiber Optic Cable

    AADC Contract No: A/11916

    Client: Al Ain Distribution Company

    Contractor: Intelligent Telecommunication Systems

    SCOPE:

    1. This procedure applies to the installation of FO Cable duct, FO Cable & Core cutting method by
    using manual excavation with hand swivel..
    2. To provide INSTRUCTIONS regarding how to install FO cable duct using hand excavation, to lay FO
    cable & to do Core cutting with proper safety.

    METHOD OF STATEMENT:

    1. Mobilization
    1.1 Apply for permit to use equipment. Obtain permit for outside security area and/or permit for use
    within for security area as required

    1.2 Receive 1 Set of latest “Approved for Construction” Drawings and Construction NOC from CLIENT.

    2. Equipment required
    2.1 Hand Swivel, Jack Hammer, asphalt cutter, Asphalt & compactor, Core drilling machine, FO Cable
    duct, safety cones, warning tape, rope, Warning sign board & First aid box.

    3. Safety
    3.1 Ensure the safety of the personnel and the equipment through out the operation in accordance
    with COMPANY safety manual.

    4. Workmanship
    4.1 Ensure that:

    a) all activities conform to given requirements / specifications or drawings / sketches;


    b) accepted practices are followed, neatness and good house-keeping are maintained;
    Requirements of these work instructions are complied with.

    5. General

    5.1 Organize all the necessary equipment at the site

    5.2 The proposed cable route is studied to plan proper division of the route into different section
    depending on the number of bends, route length, etc.

    5.3 Both the areas of the conduit area will be barricaded by warning tape and safety cones.

    5.4 No unauthorized person is allowed to enter the barricaded area.

    5.5 Warning sign board near the excavated area will be put on.

    5.6 Excavation will be carried out with all proper safety with hand swivel taking care of the existing
    cables in the presence of CLIENT Supervisor.

    5.7 Near the road crossing, asphalt cutting will be carried out with asphalt cutter with all proper safety.

    5.8 Area for the asphalt cutting will be marked and then asphalt cutting will be carried out. Only 4cm
    asphalt is present which will be cut.

    5.9. After that a trench of 3-4 mtr deep will be done with hand swivel taking care of all safety measures.

    5.10 No sharp edged tools will be used.

    5.11 After complete excavation of the proposed route is complete , Fiber optic duct will be laid.

    5.12 A layer of soft sand will be laid on the ducts and after that a warning tape will be laid.

    5.13 After the warning tapes again a layer of soft sand and finally the trench will be back filled.

    5.14 For the road crossing area after backfilling is done, asphalting will be done and finally rolling is
    done.

    5.15 Preparation For Core Cutting for taking our FO Cable inside 132/33 KV rooms.

    5.15.1 As per the approved drawing from CLIENT the core cutting area is marked.

    5.15.2 A complete verification of the existing cables is done on both sides of the wall where the core
    cutting is supposed to be done.

    5.15.3 After a complete verification is done core cutting will start with all the safety measures and in the
    presence of Client supervisor.

    6. Quality Control

    6.1 Ensure that job is carried out according to this work instruction

    6.2 Record the details of civil work as required in the format

    7. Demobilization

    7.1 Demobilize all the machinery from the site

    7.2 After completing the works, clean and clear the site.
