Definition of Website
A computer with a domain name is called a website.

Awebsite is acollection of related webpages, including multimedia

content, typically identified with acommon domain name, and
published on at least one web server. A website may be accessible via
a public Internet Protocol (IP) network, such as the Internet, or a
private local area network(LAN), by referencing a uniform resource
locator(URL) that identifies the site.

Websites can have many functions and can be used in various

fashions; a website can be a personal website, a commercial website
for a company, a government website or a non-profit organization
website. Websites are typically dedicated to a particular topic or
purpose, ranging from entertainment and social networking to
providing news and education. All publicly accessible websites
collectively constitute the World Wide Web, while private websites,
such as a company's website for its employees, are typically apart of
an intranet.

Types of Website3

Static website
A static website is one that has web pages stored on the server in the
format that is sent to a client web browser. It is primarily coded
in Hypertext Markup Language(HTML); Cascading Style Sheets are
used to control appearance beyond basic HTML. Images are commonly
used to effect the desired appearance and as part of the main content.
Audio or video might also be considered "static" content if it plays
automatically or is generally non-interactive. This type of website
usually displays the same information to all visitors. Similar to handing
out a printed brochure to customers or clients, a static website will
generally provide consistent, standard information for an extended

3
period of time. Although the website owner may make updates
periodically, it is a manual process to edit the text, photos and other
content and may require basic website design skills and software.
Simple forms or marketing examples of websites, such as classic
website, a five-page website or a brochure website are often static
websites, because they present pre-defined, static information to the
user. This may include information about a company and its products
and services through text, photos, animations, audio/video, and
navigation menus.

Dynamic website
A dynamic website is one that changes or customizes itself frequently
and automatically. Server-side dynamic pages are generated "on the
fly" by computer code that produces the HTML (CSS are responsible
for appearance and thus, are static files).

It is a site which allows the user to share data with the website. It is
usually built with a programming language such as ASP, PHP or.JAVA.
Now-a-days most business websites are dynamic. One may enter
his/her info when registering on the site as well as being able to buy
products and services4

There are a wide range of software systems, such as CGI, Java

Servlets and Java Server Pages (JSP), Active Server Pages and Cold
Fusion (CFML) that are available to generate dynamic web systems
and dynamic sites. Various web application frameworks and web
template systems are available for general-use programming
languages like Perl, PHP, Python and Ruby to make it faster and easier
to create complex dynamic websites.

2. Planning a website

In designing a website you should take into accounts the website’s

purpose and audience. A good designer knows how to achieve the
effects called for in the most flexible, efficient, and elegant way. To
design a website, you should have a thorough knowledge in hypertext,
multimedia, Java, and other programming possibilities as well as
knowledge about how particular website structures affect an
audience.

1. Determine the purpose of website

Determining the purpose of the website is most important for its

success. First of all you should develop a plan. With a good plan, you
may know in advance what you are going to do and the correct order
in which all things need to be done.

The important questions to be considered are:

(i) Why you want to create a site?

(ii) What do you want or expect your site to accomplish?

(iii) Are you planning on using your site to generate a passive income
by sell products or information or it is just for friends and family?

(iv) Is it because others are doing it?

Some common purposes for Websites are:

5
(i) Online Store: It is the most important reason for building a website.
If your primary purpose is selling physical goods, focus on creating an
online store that gives visitors simple and easy shopping.

(ii) Brand Awareness: If your primary focus is on delivering an offline

service, you may want an online brochure. This sort of website can
deliver useful, practical information about your service and help you to
develop your imageand build trust and customer loyalty.

(iii) Online Services: For delivering an online service, you will have to
build an infrastructure for the delivery of your service. This type of
website is more6complex and you will need to anticipate what you will
feature in your product catalogue, and how you will handle online
payments and process online orders.

(iv) Affiliate Commissions and Advertising: Another reason for building

a website may be to make money through promoting affiliate
programs, which offer you a commission on sales. You may want to
earn money by putting up the banners of other business on your
website. To earn a sufficient amount of money, you would require hard
work and planning.

2. Content Identification
Planning is the first step in building a good website. After determining
the purpose of the website, the website designer must plan the
content. The content of a website is everything that is in it. The
contents may include one or all of the following:

(i) The text on web pages.

(ii) The graphics in the website.

(iii) The colors and style of the website.

6
The important points to be considered about the content of a website
are:

(i) What content will it contain?

(ii) What content will drive people back to it?

(iii) What are source of contents

(iv) Who will write the content?

3. Knowing the audience

A website designer should know about his/her website’s audience. It
may be family, friends, and potential employers. Using age appropriate
material helps ensure that the online audience will remain interested
and continue to visit the website. The websites which want to attract
the young viewers should follow current trends and incorporate music,
graphics and special effects that hold their interest. For older viewers
these may have 3D graphics and soothi~n~g music.

Website designs that have too much information are often difficult to
navigate and may also deter the less experienced Internet audience.7

2.4. Pinpoint Your Edge. What is your...

 Competitive angle: price, quality, service, and uniqueness of
product or service
 Primary point of differentiation

Will you do a better job of marketing than your competition? Can you
bring to the table special products, knowledge, contacts, and sources?

2.5. Research Similar Sites. It's helpful to...

 Look at similar organizations or businesses, sites dealing with
similar services, products or even your supplier's web sites.
 Make lists of content, features, and design elements you like and
don't like.

7
2.6. Consider Site Features and Functionality. This could include...
 Special forms to gather leads, quote requests, general contact,
questionnaires, etc
 Ecommerce shopping cart or order forms

 Content management package so you can update your site in-

house

 Audio, video, blogs or other Social Media integration

 Dynamic navigation menus

 Special graphics, slideshows, tabbed navigation or content

sliders

3. Softwares that helps to develop website
The basic tools needed for website develop are amazingly simple.
Aside from a computer and an internet connection, most of the tools
you need to build a website are software programs, some of which
may already be on your computer. You need a text or HTML editor, a
graphics editor, web browsers, and an FTP client to upload files to
your web server. There are many HTML editors on the market and they
vary from basic to professional-level software. If you are new to
writing web pages, one of the WYSIWYG—What You See Is What You
Get—editors might work the best for you. Some editors only show the
code, but with some of them, you can toggle between coding views
and visual views. Here are a few of the many HTML web editors
available

 Wix
The easiest way to build a website, with a wizard and a WYSIWYG
editor

Wix offers you two ways to build your website. Both involve creating it
online, and both are as quick and painless as possible.

The simplest option is to use the Wix ADI (Artificial Design

Intelligence) website builder which will guide you through a series of
questions before automatically creating a site for you. There is scope
for customization, but the focus here is really on fast results for
anyone who is terrified of designing websites.

 Mobirise is an HTML editor for people who don't want to get

involved with code. It is all about picking a theme and then dragging
and dropping elements on the page. Add text just like you would in
a regular text editor and insert images, videos or icons—all without
writing any code; Mobirise does that part for you. Mobirise is
available for Windows and Mac, and it is free.

9
 Joomla Joomla is a well-known name in the CMS world. It may not
be as popular as Word Press, but it offers the same two options:
build a site using the web app at joomla.com and having it hosted
on the company's servers, or download the software from
joomla.org and host it yourself. If you choose the latter option, you'll
notice that the interface is much less approachable than
WordPress. It's not completely impenetrable, but there are lots of
menus and options to work through and it doesn't feel quite as
polished as WordPress.Joomla's online website builder is nearly as
complex, but doesn't involve the same setup process, making it a
bette option for beginners. Its key selling point is its huge collection
of themes and extensions, which provide endless ways to
customize the way your site looks and works
 WordPress
Wordpress is ideal for static sites, portfolios, online stores and
blogs

Causing a slight degree of confusion, there are actually two

different versions of WordPress. The more complex version can be
downloaded from wordpress.org, and you will need to upload it to
your own web space and install it using the automated online
installer. You can then customize the templates and use add-ons to
make the site your own. This is the route many bloggers go down,
but there is a simpler option for people who don’t want the hassle of
fiddling about with scripts and getting dirty with hardcore editing.

The hosted version of WordPress lets you create your own site on
wordpress.com. You can create everything from a blog or photo
site, to a fully fledged online store, and there are a number of
templates to choose from.

Whether you're creating a static site, or a blog-style site with

regularly updated content, the online editor is a joy to use and
allows just about anyone to create an impressive, professional-
looking site. With the only downside is the limited range of plugins
and templates compared with the desktop website builder.

4. Softwares that helps to image processing
Image processing software is software that is designed to manipulate
digital images. In particular, it captures the image if that hasn't
already been done, it converts it to a digital form, and it performs a
manipulation or manipulations on it

scan ^R image analysis software - High content screening software

from Olympus for analyzing large quantities of images, especially
those acquired using the scan^R automatic microscope system.

LSM Image Browser - With this software you can open the images
(database) that you have acquired with our Zeiss LSM 510 Meta
system.

AxioVision LE - With this software you can open the images that you
have acquired with our Zeiss Axiovert 200 system.

Imaris - for visualization and quantification of 3D and 4D data. Used for

model rendering, tracking of particles over time, track filamentous
structures, colocalization, movie recording and data visualization.
Examples of data processed in Imaris can be seen in Bitplane's
learning center.
