As companies grow larger, information is becoming harder to organize and even

harder to keep secret. Thus, companies must implement secure measures to store data.

Information systems were born with the age of computers and popularity continues to

increase, even in smaller organizations. The components that comprise an information

system are hardware, instructions, procedures, data, and people. This paper will provide

an overview of three organizational departments and their information systems.

Human resource involves planning, job analysis, strategic planning, recruitment,

staffing, training, employee evaluation, pay and benefits, and employee and labor

relations. The Human Resource Information System (HRIS) is a tool used for tracking

employee attendance, pay history, and performance. It is also used for maintaining

training aides, company handbooks, and safety procedures. The HRIS allows employees

to update their personal information so that human resource personnel can tend to other

duties.

According to Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. (n.d.), “[Marketing is the process of

performing market research, selling products and/or services to customers and promoting

them via advertising to further enhance sales.]” (Wikimedia Foundation, Inc.,

n.d.).Upper management can use a Marketing Information System (MkIS) to compile and

organize marketing data. This data is forwarded to management. The MkIS creates charts

and graphs in which companies use to track historic trends and predict future outcomes.

The MkIS is also useful in determining the relationship among price, unit, and

competition so that companies can make decisions that will lead to successful results.

Management is the term given to a person or group who conducts the following

activities to make decisions in an organization: plans, organizes, leads, and controls. The

Management Information System (MIS) is used to record both planned and executed

activities completed in a legible format. In this format, the compiled data is more likely

to be analyzed and interpreted correctly, resulting in an increase in profits and a well-ran

organization.

Those companies who choose to adapt information systems will save time and

money. However, information systems must be carefully selected. They are evaluated by

ease of use, flexibility, and compatibility with other systems. In today’s time, information

systems are becoming more of a necessity because information is the basis of successful

relations, decision making, and competition.
