1. To attain the National Qualification of COMPUTER SYSTEMS

SERVICING NC II, the candidate must demonstrate competence in all
the units listed below. Successful candidate shall be awarded a National
Certificate signed by the TESDA Director General.

2. The Qualification of COMPUTER SYSTEMS SERVICING NC II, may also be

acquired through accumulation of Certificate of Competency (CoC) in the
following units of competency:

2.2. Set up Computer Networks
2.3. Set up Computer Servers
2.4. Maintain and Repair Computer Systems and Networks

3. For individuals, who already possess National Certificate (NC) or Certificate of

Competency (COC) along the Computer Hardware Servicing NC II –

3.1 Portfolio with interview assessment is applicable for COC #1, COC #2
and COC #4, provided the candidate is already employed and has
related work experience for the past three years. However, if the
assessor finds the evidences presented inadequate, he may still
require the candidate to undergo the performance assessment;

 3.2 Candidates are required to take performance assessment for COC #3
– “Set-up Computer Servers”.

4. Upon accumulation and submission of all CoCs acquired, an individual shall

be issued the corresponding National Certificate for the Qualification.

5. Assessment shall focus on the core units of competency. The basic and
common units are assessed concurrently with the core units.

6. The following are qualified to apply for assessment certification.

 Graduates of formal, non-formal and informal including enterprise-based
training programs.
 Experienced workers (wage employed or self-employed).

7. The guidelines on assessment and certification are discussed in detail in the

Procedures Manual on Assessment and Certification and Guidelines on the
Implementation of the Philippine TVET Qualification and Certification System
(PTQCS)

COC 1 Title INSTALL AND CONFIGURE COMPUTER SYSTEMS

Time Allotted Two (2) Hours

1. Given the necessary components, testing instruments, tools and equipment,

instruct the candidate to install and configure computer systems in two (2)hours
based on the following tasks :

a. Disassemble and assemble computer hardware

b. Configure the BIOS and test the assembled unit to check whether it
will boot or not.
c. Prepare the installers
d. Install the operating system
e. Install application softwares

2. The assessment shall be based on the unit of competency in the Training

Regulations and Evidence Plan, and shall focus on the evidence gathering
methods below:

 Demonstration/Observation with Oral questioning

 Portfolio Assessment with Interview

3. The final assessment shall be your responsibility as Accredited Assessor.

4. At the end of the assessment, you shall provide the candidate feedback on the
assessment results. The feedback shall indicate whether the candidate is:

Answer: Probably, the video driver is not installed. Install the video driver

7. How will you check and what instrument will you use to determine whether the
power supply is providing enough voltage output or not?

8. What will you do if a customer wants to install an operating system in his PC but
does not have an optical drive?
Answer: Create a bootable flash disk
9. What may be the problem if a computer does not recognize a bootable flash
drive? What would you do to resolve this?
Answer: Maybe the BIOS is not properly configured to boot on the
flash drive. Configure the BIOS to boot on the flash drive
10. After testing the assembled product, you have noticed that the product is not
working, what are the possible causes?
Answer:

NOTE: Assessment Centers using Open Source Systems should own at least one (1)
valid license for the following: Desktop OS, Network OS, Office Productivity Software
and Antivirus.

The quantity of tools and equipment to be used for the conduct of assessment for this

1. Given The necessary components, testing instruments, tools and equipment,

instruct the candidate to set up and test the computer networks in two and a half
(2.5) hours based on the following tasks:

a. Perform network cabling management/arrangement

b. Perform network cable splicing (straight cable) – at most 16 pieces RJ45
c. Set network configuration
d. Test the Network (SOHO networks/AD HOC networks)
e. Set up Router/Wi-Fi/Wireless
f. Create wireless network with security
g. Set up internet connection sharing
h. Set up wireless access point
i. Set up firewall, quality of service (QOS), MAC authentication
j. Conduct test

2. The Assessment shall be based on the unit of competency in the Training

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

 What may be the causes why the computer displays a black screen and produces no
beeps when power is turned on? What should you do to correct the situation?
Answer: The probable cause must be the RAM. Turn off the computer,
unplug it, remove the cover, and remove the card. Then take a
plain old pencil eraser and rub it over the contacts on the part of
the card that fits into the slot.
 If RAM is not the cause, what may be another cause and what should you do to solve
the problem?
Answer: The other probable cause maybe the video card. Again, turn off
the computer, unplug it, remove the cover, and remove the card.

 If one of the users forgot his/her password, how are you going to change the
password? Enumerate the steps in resetting a password using GUI.
Answer: Reset the password. Login as administrator. Click Start, right
click My Computer, then manage, properties. Click Local users
and groups, double click Users folder, right click its username,
select Set password.
 After transferring the computer unit, the monitor has no more display but the power
indicator is on. What are the steps that you must do? Name two causes of the problem.
Answer: Cable, ATX Power Supply on the mother board, Graphic Card
Steps: Check the cable, check the on board power supply, check graphic
card and then test the unit.

 How would you avoid power supply overloading?

Answer: Be sure to buy a power supply that has its proper wattage rating.
For computers having plenty of peripherals, it is recommended to
have a higher wattage rating power supply (e.g.1000 watts)
 How would you avoid overheating of devices such as CPU, or any other devices that
produces more heat?
Answer: Provide the computer proper ventilation or just cleaning or
removing the dust from the fans. Dust can slow down the moving
rotation of fans.
 What do you call a pool of open source applications?
Answer: Software Repository/Repositories
 In the absence of an internal/external optical drive, what option can you use to install
an OS?
Answer: Pin drive/USB/Flash drive
 What command line tool is used for monitoring Active Directory and provides
