while constant impedance connection is high frequency response.
The tweeter coil is wound on a strong
aluminium support and immersed in fer-
rofluid to improve cooling and dissipation
of the heat produced by momentary thermal
stress.
• FILTER: the crossover, with a slope of 6/12
dB/oct, uses inductance values т series with
the woofer that are markedly lower than con-
ventional passive crossover.
This reduces delays in sound signal re-
production due to high inductance values,
thus providing an excellent transient re-
sponse.
• PROTECTION CIRCUIT: the MONI-
TOR 4 series speakers are equipped with a
dynamic tweeter protection circuit composed
of a low value and negligible mass filament
resistor. When high signal levels are present
that may pose a dangerous overload for the
tweeter coil, the resistance increases imme-
diately to limit the power sent to the trans-
ducer.
• ACCESSORIES: to further enhance the
performance of the MONITOR 4 series
speakers, we recommend that you use the
specially designed MR HPF equalizer, which
guarantees excellent reproduction of the
low range, comparable to that which can be
obtained with much larger speakers.
All MONITOR 4 models have been de-
signed for table-top or bookshelf installation
or, with the use of special accessories, they
can be installed on the wall or ceiling, flush
mounted, or combined in groups of two and
four in a column or on floor stands.

• COMPONENTS: the 130 mm (5 inch) di-
CONSTANT DIRECTIVITY ameter woofer is fitted with a diaphragm made
COMPACT ACOUSTIC of carbon fiber.
Specifically produced by RCF for our trans-
SPEAKER SYSTEM ducers, this material ensures the utmost rigidi-
ty, which is extremely useful in eliminating di-
aphragm breakup (undesired movement).
The woofer magnet is enclosed by a mag-
netic screen to prevent the lines of force of the
magnetic field from altering or damaging image
reproduction when the speaker is situated near
a television, TV monitor, video projector, etc.
The constant directivity horn with a
110°xllO° angle of coverage is equipped with
an equalizer on the tweeter.
The dome tweeter incorporates a 19 mm
coil cooled in ferrofluid and a polypropylene
diaphragm.
• LICC: the Low Impedance Compensated
Crossover (LICC), designed in the RCF R&D
laboratories, is a new way of conceiving passive
crossovers.
This innovative design philosophy, which
materializes in the filter controlling the low fre-
quencies, has made it possible to use induc-
tance values, in series with the woofer, that are
markedly lower than those of conventional
passive crossover.
A further innovation is the "dynamic" pro-
tection on the tweeter, thus called because it is
composed of a low value and negligible mass
filament resistor. In the event of overload, re-
sistance is immediately increased and the pow-
er sent to the tweeter is lowered.
This protective function is extremely fast
and selective, as it only concerns musical pieces
whose level is too high for the tweeter, and re-
covers automatically as soon as the level falls
back below the safety threshold.
• The excellent performance of the MONI-
TOR5S - 5SW speaker systems can be further
enhanced by using the specially designed MR
HPF equalizer, which provides even greater
frequency response extension and linearity.
• The MONITOR5S - 5SW can also be in-
stalled outdoors and still ensure top perfor-
mance over time.
The range of optional accessories provides:
• Extremely easy and versatile installation.
-Any kind of positioning: horizontal, vertical,
tilted, on ceiling, wall, column, or floor stand.
-The possibility to install system with 1,2, or

• COMPONENTS: the 200 mm woofer with
MONITOR carbon fiber diaphragm is the latest develop-

RCF engineers.
MR 8 W This woofer has been designed to ensure the
maximum linearity at high power levels in a
CONSTANT DIRECTIVITY compact reflex system, with the use of the most
advanced technologies. High efficiency and
COMPACT ACOUSTIC correct transient response are ensured by an ex-

maximum strength, undeformability and light
weight are guaranteed by the specially designed
cast aluminium basket.
A new 25 mm titanium diaphragm high fre-
quency driver with phase plug has been devel-
oped for providing a smooth extended re-
sponse up to 23,000 Hz. The f 10°x80° constant
directivity horn ensures excellent horizontal
and vertical coverage with proper loading for
the driver down to 1200 Hz.
• CROSSOVER: the low impedance compen-
sated crossover (LICC) is an RCF first, and a
breakthrough in crossover design.
Conventional passive crossovers have an ap-
proximately f80° phase shift between woofer
and tweeter at the crossover point. Such a sys-
tem cannot correctly reproduce transients,
causing negative effects on sound accuracy that
are particularly noticeable with piano, violin,
trumped, and vocals. Very low inductance val-
ues are used in the LICC, thus providing an ex-
cellent transient response and drastically reduc-
ing phase shifts between woofer and tweeter.
As a result, the two tweeters controlled by
the LICC provide the well-defined, natural,
and open sound - across the entire bandwidth -
that is typical of sophisticated active systems.
• Thanks to its ability to reproduce distortion-
free high peak power levels with exceptional
sound definition, the MONITORS - 8W is a
highly versatile speaker that offers substantial
advantages when compared to larger systems.
• The high-pressure injection-moulded enclo-
sure is non-resonant and mechanically very
sturdy. Combining extremely attractive design
with maximum durability, the MONITOR 8 -
8W can be used in outdoor environments as
well as in the most elegant interiors.
• A wide range of accessories is available for
the MONITOR 8 - 8W which enhance acoustic
performance and facilitate installation.
The MR HPF equalizer makes it possible to
optimize the low frequency response and fur-
ther linearize the response curve.

Optimum acoustic intelligibility, the
foremost objective of the Process Control
system, is thus provided by the maximum
linearity of both acoustic response and
phasing.
Obviously, the signal is processed after
being separated into its frequency compo-
nents, so that low frequencies are directed
to one output and high frequencies to the
other.
The crossover filter is a 24 dB per oc-
tave Linkwitz-Riley type, which reduces to
a mimimum the typical phenomenon of
vertical phase loss around the crossover
frequencies.
