EE 151 Midterm Examination

5-EA / 5-EB
_________________________

Problem:

A certain municipality has the following loads as shown. An industrial zone primarily composed of medium sized manufacturing
plants whose loads are as follows:

Plant No.1 : Lighting load – 85.5 kw, 3-Ø, 225 volts

Demand factor – 78.8%
Motor load – 283.333 kw, 3-Ø, 225 volts
Demand factor – 86 %
Average power factor – 83 %
Diversity factor – 115 %

Plant No.2 : Lighting load – 90 kw, 3-Ø, 225 volts

Demand factor – 79.8%225
Motor load – 295 kw, 3-Ø, 225 volts
Demand factor – 88 %
Average power factor – 84 %
Diversity factor – 112 %

The zone must be provided by a single primary line from the site to the municipalities own power plants substation. The primary
feeder should meet the design specifications as required. All the industrial customers must be provided by an indoor type substation whose
service is to be metered on the secondary side of the transformer bank consisting of 3 single phase units.

At another place of the same municipality, locate a large sized manufacturing plant whose power requirements are as follows:

Plant No.3 : Lighting load – 350 kw, 3-Ø, 225 volts

Demand factor – 87 %
Motor load – 450 kw, 3-Ø, 225 volts
Demand factor – 88 %
Average power factor – 82 %
Diversity factor – 135 %

The plant on this zone must be provided by its separate and individual primary lines from site to the municipalities own power plant
substation. These primary lines must meet the design specifications for primary lines as required. The plant each must be provided by an
outdoor type substation whose service is to be metered on the primary side of a 3-Ø transformer.
Finally, locate the power plant and its substation facility .

Required:
3.1 For customers requiring an indoor type substation whose service is to be metered on the secondary side of the transformer bank:

3.1.1 For each customer, determine the sizes and ratings of the following
equipments which may be required:
3.1.1.1 fuse cut-out and fuse links
3.1.1.2 lightning arresters
3.1.1.3 instrument transformers and accessories (if necessary)
3.1.1.4 rating of the distribution transformers

3.1.2 Size of the primary line serving the customers.

3.1.3 Location of the post supporting the primary lines. Indicate also the route of
the line. Include the transposition schedule in a table.
3.2 For customers requiring an outdoor type substation whose service is to be metered on the primary side of the transformer
bank:

3.2.1 For each customer, determine the sizes and ratings of the following
equipments which may be required:
3.2.1.1 fuse cut-out and fuse links
3.2.1.2 lightning arresters
3.2.1.3 instrument transformers and accessories (if necessary)
3.2.1.4 rating of the distribution transformers
.
3.2.2 Size of the primary line serving the customers.

Basic assumptions:
1. Distance of secondary side of the transformer to the load is negligible while that of the primary side is 3000 ft.
2. Conductor to be used is copper
3. Conductors are arranged in horizontal spacing at 30 inches M.O.C.
4. Allowable AC VD = 5 % of 69 KV for primary, while 3 % of 225 V for the secondary & 150 % of Safe DC VD
