Section A: Criterion A & C

1. a) Calculate the value of (30 + 4–1) x 22

1
= (1 + )*4
4
1
= 4 (1 + )
4
=4+1
=5

b) A car travels at a speed   miles per hour, write down how long will the car travel in   days?
Leave your answer in the exponent form.

Speed = Distance/Time

7^2 = distance/7^7
Speed = 7^2 * 24 in days

Distance = Speed * Time

Distance = 7^2 * 24 * 7^7
Distance = 79 * 24 miles

2. Write down the following in factorized form:

a) x8 – y8
= (x^4) ^2 - (y^4) ^2
= (x^4 - y^4) (x^4 + y^4)
= (x^2) ^2 - (y^2) ^2 * (x^4 + y^4)
= (x^2 - y^2) (x^2 +y^2) (x^4 + y^4)
= (x-y) (x + y) (x^2 + y^2) (x^4 + y^4)

b) (y + 2)2 – 16
= (y + 2)2 - 24
= (y + 2)2 – 42

Identity: a^2 – b^2 = (a + b) (a – b)

‘A’ here = (y + 2)
‘B’ here = 4

= (y + 6) (y – 2)

c) 49x2 + 70xy + 25y2

So,
49x^2 can be written as (7x) ^2
25y^2 can be written as (5y) ^2
70xy can be written as 2 (7x) (5y)
1
Identity – a^2 + 2ab + b^2 = (a + b) ^2

Therefore, (7x) ^2 + 2(7x) (5y) + (5y) ^2

= (7x + 5y) ^2

3. Rahul made a square whose area is given by (4x2 + 12xy + 9y2) units. Rachit wants to make a square of
same size but doesn’t know the side of a square. Calculate the side of the square.

Area of square = Side * Side

Area = 4x2 + 12xy + 9y2

To calculate the side of the square, we will have to factorize it.

So,
4x^2 can be written as (2x) ^2
9y^2 can be written as (3y) ^2

Now, this can be written as –

(2x) ^2 + 2(2x) (3y) + (3y) ^2

Now, the identity is that a^2 + 2ab + b^2 = (a+ b) ^2

= (2x + 3y) ^2 units

4. Use the formula K = 117 – 3(n + 2).

K = -3n + 111
Copy and complete the table of values:
N –4 –1 5 11 13

K
123 114 96 78 72

5. The circumference of a circular clock face is 13.12 centimeters more than three times the radius.
Calculate the radius of the clock face.

So,

2
Circumference of circle = 2 πr
= 3r + 13.12 = c
= 3r + 13.12 = pi * 2r
= 13.12 = pi * 2r - 3r
= 13.12 = r *(3.14 * 2-3)
R = 13.12 / (3.14 * 2 - 3) = 3.996 centimeters
6.

a) Write down
the
information shown in the above chart in a tabular form.

Year USA China GBR RUS GER

2000 90 55 26 90 55
2004 100 60 30 90 50
2008 110 100 49 70 40
2012 100 85 65 80 45
2016 120 70 75 55 43

b) Identify which country has won maximum number of medals in 2016?

United States (USA)

c) The sum of three times the number of medals won by great Britain in 2004 and 10 is 100. Derive an
appropriate algebraic expression to solve above equation.
Let number of medals in 2004 = x ; and 2010 = y

3
Expression:
100 = 3x + 3y
3x + 3y + -3y = 100 + -3y
3y + -3y = 0
3x + 0 = 100 + -3y
3x = 100 + -3y
x = 33.3 -1y
