Lesson 1
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
 use the divisibility rules for 2,5 and 10 to find common
factors of numbers.

Introduction:
“What can we know about a number just by looking at it?” “What do you think

the term “divisibility rule” means?

Divisibility Rule is a way to figure out the factors of a whole number without
performing division, usually by examining the digits. Rules that help us recognize
divisibility quickly- without a calculator.

What’s In (Communication)

If a number divides exactly into a number, it is divisible by this number.

When a number divides another number exactly, the divisor is called, a factor of the
dividend and the dividend is called the multiple of the divisor.

Let’s see what this means!

Complete the table below by finding the remainder of the given numbers on the first

column when divided by numbers 2, 5 and 10.

What’s New (Communication)

Christian wants to help in his simple ways, especially in

this time of COVID-19 pandemic. He bought 20 small bottles of
alcohol to be donated to barangay front liners. Can he share the
alcohol equally among 2 front liners? 5 frontliners10 frontliners?
How many bottles of alcohol will each received?

 Is it important to give equal share? Why?

 Have you shared something to the needy?

What is It (Communication, Critical Thinking, Collaboration)

Let’s learn some special rules to help us know if numbers are divisible by
2, 5 and 10.
1. Use a chart of the numbers 10 to 109 to show if number 20 is divisible
by 2, 5 and 10,
a. Color each number that is divisible by 2 yellow.
b. Circle each number that is divisible by 5.
c. Put an X through each number that is divisible by 0 and 5.

d. The yellow numbers are divisible by 2. Look at the last digit of each yellow number.
Are these digits even or odd? The last digit of each yellow numbers ends in
0,2,4,6 and 8.They are all even numbers.
e. The circled numbers are divisible by 5. Look at the last digit of each circled
number. What do you notice? The last digit of each circled number ends in 0
and 5.
f. The numbers with an X are divisible by 10. Look at the last digit of each number
with an X. What do you notice? The last digit of each number with an X ends in
0.
* The numbers 2, 5 and 10 are factors of 20, Therefore, Christian can share his bottles
of alcohol among 2, 5 and 1o front liners.
* For 2 front liners- Each of them will receive 10 small bottles of alcohol.

* For 5 front liners- Each of them will receive 4 small bottles of alcohol..

* For 10 front liners- Each of them will receive 2 small bottles of alcohol.

Think: Is it important to give equal share? Why? Have you shared something to
the needy, especially in times of pandemic?

Lesson 2
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
 use the divisibility rules for 3, 6 and 9 to find common
factors of numbers.

Introduction:
Can the rules of divisibility apply to real life-situations? Well in fact, these
rules will help learners look at numbers with greater ease and build their
comprehension of numbers.
Let us know more about them by reading and understanding this module.
Along with, there are activities that surely you will enjoy.

What’s In

Have you ever wondered why some numbers divide evenly (without a
remainder), and others do not? That is why there are rules of divisibility that all learners
should learn and understand as early as possible. There is a divisibility rule for every
number. These rules help learners overcome fear of large numbers and this can help
build number sense.
The rules of divisibility will help you do that exactly!

WHAT’S NEW (Communication)

As an expression of gratitude for the frontliners in

providing public service amidst CoVid-19 pandemic, Joseph
decided to bake 360 chocolate cookies to be distributed to
garbage collectors as their afternoon snacks. Can he share the
cookies equally to 3, 6 and 9 garbage collectors? How do you
know if they will get an equal number of cookies?

 What traits does Joseph have? Should you imitate him?

Why?

WHAT IS IT (Communication, Critical Thinking, Collaboration)

Instead of actually carrying out a division , it is possible to “test” a

number to see if it can be divided exactly by certain numbers.

Let us study the steps below.

1.) Divisibility Rules for 3 , 6 and 9

* The Rule for 3

The given number in the story problem is 360.

STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3

Add up the digits Divide the Sum by 3 Use the result if it is
multiple of 3

Given: 360 Given: 360 Given: 360

= 3+6+0 = 9÷3 = 9÷3 = 360÷3
=3 = 120
= 9 = 3

14
Mod1Q1W1. Number and Number Sense

The sum of the digits is divisible by 3

So 3 is a factor of 360. It is divisible by 3
Therefore, Joseph can share his cookies to 3 garbage collectors.
Each of them will receive 120 chocolate cookies.

* The Rule for 6

Must be Divisible by 2 and 3

360?
divisible by 2 divisible by 3
360 360
the last digit is 0 = 360 ÷ 3
= 360 ÷ 2 = 3+6+0 ÷ 3
= 180 = 9÷3

360 is divisible by 2 and 3

360 is divisible by 6
Therefore, Joseph can share his cookies to 6 garbage collectors.
Each of them will receive 60 chocolate cookies.

* The Rule for 9

STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3

Add up the digits Divide the Sum by 9 Use the result if it
multiple of 3

Given: 360 Given: 360 Given: 360

= 3+6+0 = 9÷9 = 9÷9 = 360÷9
=1 = 40
= 9 = 1

The sum of the digit is divisible by 9

360 is divisible by 9
Therefore, Joseph can share his cookies to 9 garbage collector.
Each of them will receive 40 chocolate cookies
