Join a meeting
The SMART online calendar may be accessed at:
https://www.smartrecovery.org/community/calendar.php

You do not need to create a Zoom account to join a meeting. Please refer to the section
on creating an account if you wish to do so.

The meeting title will indicate if the meeting is Video only, Voice/Video, Voice Only or Text and
will indicate the availability of meeting verifications.

When you click on a particular meeting, it will show the specific meeting details.

You can join a SMART meeting with the following methods:


• Join via a web browser
• Join from a laptop or desktop (windows or mac) using the Zoom client application
• Join via a mobile device Android or iOS) or tablet. The Zoom app is required for all
mobile devices

Please do not turn your video on or text via the mobile app while driving!

In consideration of other meeting participants,


• Please do not smoke, vape or other distracting activities while your video is turned on
• Mute microphone when not speaking

Instructions on how to enter a meeting for the above methods are described below.

Join meeting with a web browser


On the meeting details window, click on the Zoom meeting link and wait for the redirection.

You will be redirected to a page that looks like the image shown below, please click on “join
from your browser”

After you click on the above link, you will be redirected either directly to the meeting if you are
already logged in the Zoom client or to the page which will request your username.

To ensure that you can obtain a verification please Click here to join

Join meeting using Zoom client application on a PC


You can join from the app instead of clicking on the link in the SMART Recovery online
calendar, once you have the Zoom client installed on your computer. Please refer to the
section on downloading the Zoom client application

Open Zoom application client, then select Join A Meeting > Join

Note: You can join a meeting with or without signing in.

Enter the Meeting ID number and input your SMART Recovery username. Also select if you
would like to connect audio and/or video and select Join.

Joining meeting through mobile (iOS/Android)


Android instructions.
1. On your Android device, tap on the Google Play Store icon.

2. In Google Play, tap on Apps.

3. Enter Zoom in the search text area, and then tap Zoom Cloud Meetings from the search

results.

4. In the next screen, tap Install.

5. In the next screen, tap Accept.

6. After Zoom has installed, tap Open.

7. In Zoom, tap Join a Meeting, sign up for an account and sign in if you have an account.

8. In the "Join a Meeting" window, enter the Meeting ID (you can get this number from
SMART online meeting calendar) and Your Name (you can either leave the default or enter
another display name for the meeting). (Note: In the example below, "123 456 789" is entered
as the Meeting ID, and "John Saxa" is entered as the user name.) Tap Join when you're done.

If you require a verification, please enter with


your SMART Recovery username.

After a few moments, you'll be


connected to your meeting.

If you have an existing Zoom business/personal account

If you use Zoom for other purposes outside of SMART and wish to log in with your SMART
username:

• Launch the Zoom app


• Select Join
• Type in the meeting ID
• Enter your SMART username where requested
• click Join

In meeting controls
Once you join a meeting there are different controls that you can use to interact in the meeting
located at the bottom of the Zoom window.

Using Chat
You can use the ‘Chat’ facility to send text chat to all participants or privately to specific
participants.
Click on the ‘Chat’ icon in the tool bar. Hover your mouse over the Zoom window if you can’t
see the tool bar.

A chat window will open. Select ‘Everyone’ or the name of the person you wish to send a chat
message to.

Audio Only
It is possible that during the conference participants will be asked to turn off their cameras and
move to audio only, particularly if there are problems with the available bandwidth.
To do this simply click on the camera icon at the bottom of the Zoom window.

Creating a Zoom account


Go to the home page for Zoom https://www.Zoom.us/

Click on the “SIGN UP, IT’S FREE” button on the top right of the home page. This will redirect
you to a sign-up page.

Insert your email address and wait for the confirmation modal to show on the screen.

Check email account for Zoom activation email open it and click on Activate Account.

Verify that your email is


correct.
Then click the confirm
button. A new window will
open indicating that an
email sent to the email
provided.

Once you receive the email. Accept the activation and you will be direct to a web page to
complete your account.

Fill in the blanks with your first and last name as well as a password then click “Continue”

This next window appears, you may just click “Skip this step”

Downloading Zoom client application for a PC


If you have Zoom installed already, please skip this section.
(Warning: If you have Zoom already installed on your computer, and particularly if you have a
Zoom account that you use for other purposes, if you click on the join link, you may
inadvertently enter the meeting with some personal data being displayed. Skip down to where
it discusses joining a meeting.)

The first step to do, is to access to the meeting, click on the link.

When entering a Zoom meeting for the first time from a computer you will need to download
the application file. Zoom will ask your permission to send the file to you. Respond to the
prompts to allow the download.

This process is easy to complete on all commonly used browsers. The examples below are
shown using Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.
Mozilla Firefox
Click ‘Save File’ and follow the instruction in the orange box.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome should automatically download the file and point to it as shown above.
Clicking on the Zoom_launcher.exe file will install Zoom, there will be a short pause before a
blue progress bar appears indicating the installation.
Start meeting. (you should not have a Zoom account for this process)
If you already have the Zoom application installed, the next process is going to be applied.
If an ‘Application Launcher’ or ‘External Protocol Request’ box appears simply tick the
‘Remember my choice…’ option box.

Just before entering the meeting you will be prompted to enter a display name if and only if
you have not logged in, try to use your SMART recovery username to receive a verification.
