2. Course Introduction

This course is to familiarize the students with the practical aspects of


professional practice. It includes office, personnel, finance and
site/project management. Building bye-laws, regulations and legal
aspects, role of professional and regulatory bodies in the profession.
Detailed study of the contract documents and site supervision and
contract management. Legal aspects of the buildings, contract
documents, easements, dilapidations etc.

3. Course Objective and Outcomes:

The main objective is to expose student architects to their commitments and


responsibilities, from the perspective of participating in a design team/specific
realisation in the construction sector. Students will become familiar with and
understand the issues relating to the legal status of architect and the different levels
of responsibility and will provide a practical explanation of the different tools to
manage a project and a construction site.

4. Course Coverage:

The course delivery is comprised of two parts; Professional practice and the role of
the architecture with the objective of planning / implementing a project AND Tools
to manage the project process and contractual framework of a construction site.

This teaching unit enables students to identify the framework of their profession as an
architect and to be able to find information to assess it from the legal framework and
responsibilities involved. Thus activate and develop an ethical sense through
approaches to architecture.

profession (design, implementation of regulations and

Assignments will be evaluated on the basis of technical understanding of the
assigned topic. In the final, total result of assignments will be given 10% weight
age as per the LCWU policy.

9.1 Late Submission:
Late submissions will be marked out of 50%.

9.2 Absenteeism:
Absenteeism will be dealt as per the nature of the problem and LCWU policy, as
regular student attendance is strongly encouraged to cope up with the pace of the
class.

9.3 Plagiarism
As per the LCWU and HEC policy.

10. Assessment GPA and Percentages:


(80-100%) This is an outstanding standard indicating comprehensive knowledge
and understanding of the relevant materials; demonstration of an
outstanding level of academic ability; mastery of skills (as identified in the
assessment task); and achievement of all assessment objectives.

(70-79%) This is an excellent standard indicating a very high level of knowledge and
understanding of the relevant materials; demonstration of a very high
level of academic ability; sound development of skills (as identified in the
assessment task); and achievement of all assessment objectives.

(60-69%) This is a very good standard indicating a high level of knowledge and
understanding of the relevant materials; demonstration of a high level of
academic ability; reasonable development of skills (as identified in the
assessment task); and achievement of all assessment objectives.

(50-59%) This is a satisfactory standard indicating an adequate knowledge and


understanding of the relevant materials; demonstration of an adequate
level of academic ability; satisfactory development of skills (as identified
in the assessment task); and achievement of most assessment objectives.
Fail (less than 50%)
This is an unsatisfactory standard indicating an inadequate
knowledge and understanding of the relevant materials;
insufficient evidence of academic ability; failure to develop skills

(as identified in the assessment task); and failure to achieve


assessment objectives.
