1. Introduction
The Plant Manager, SQ Wire & Cable Co., Ltd., Corporate Office, Plot # 31,
I-ake Drive Road'
Engineering and
Nikunja t, pt uku-tZZql nur requested Director, BRTC, Bangladesh University of
NYY V cable
Technology (BUET), to carry ou! typg tests on one sampB of 1x185 rm 600/1000
were
manufachli.d Uy Sq Wir" a Cable Co., Ltd. In respgme to the request, the following
tests
of EEE,
carried out on the supplied cable sample of six -et".s in the laboratory of Department
BIIET according to the relevant standards:
1. Dimension and weight test
2. DC resistance test
3. Insulation resistance test
4. High voltage withstand test
5. Current carrYing capacitY test
2. Samples
A sample of cable was supplied by the is unknown. The
specification of this sample is presented
'i, .'
3. Test Results
3.1 Dimension il dimension and weight of the cable were
measured and
3.2 DC resistance test: of the single strand from the sample are measured at
,L)C),,resistances
room temperature unU th.n converted to resistance at20" C'
3.3 Insulation resistance test: The sample was immersed in saline water at room temperature'
The insulation resistance of the sample was measured after 24 hours at room temperature.
3.4 High voltage withstand test: The sample was immersed in saline water for 24 hours and
tt * t ign ,oltuge withstand test appropriate for the sample was carried out between the
conductor and the ground. The voliage was raised slowly and kept for 5 minutes at the
desired rms level 3.5 kV. No breakdown of insulation in the cable occurred.
3.5 Current carrying capacity test: The rated current for the cable was passed through the
conductor and malntained until the temperature of the conductor became stable. Increase in
the ternperature of the conductor and of the insulator was measured at regular intervals.
The
measurement was carried out at room temperature. The temperature rise in the conductor
and in the insulation was within acceptable limit'
