Course Title : Fundamentals of Political Science
Course Code : PS 100
Prerequisite : none
Course Credit : 3 units
Course Description :
A study of the basic concepts of political science (i.e. power, state government, ideology,
nation, political forces), the types of political system and the processes of political development.

VISION: A just and free responsible community made up of people who are
intellectually competent and honest, and morally and ethically, sensitive to the needs and
aspirations of the society.
MISSION: The mission of Northern Christian College is training of the spiritual,
intellectual, social and physical qualities of the youth of the Philippines with special emphasis on
the development of Christian character as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
CREDO: Northern Christian College seeks a life of faith, learning, action, that will
develop the person into becoming intellectually competent and honest, and ethically sensitive,
and creatively aware and responsible to the needs, aspirations, and realizations of a just, free, and
responsible Christian order.

Course Competencies:
After completing the course, the students are expected to manifest the following competencies:

I. INFORMATION LITERACY
 Explain, and critique the concepts, theories, approaches, and subfields of
Political Science
 Differentiate, and appraise the relevance, contribution, and utility of the
different theoretical approaches and methodologies used in the study of
Politics
 explain the structural context within which politics takes place, including the
role of the economy, society, and culture, and conflicts over and within those
domains

II. CRITICAL THINKING


 evaluate alternative political ideas and ideologies
 Show dexterity in using the approaches and analytical perspectives of Political
Science in examining contemporary social issues and/or problems
 Compose analyses of the strengths, weakness, and contributions to the field of
the approaches and analytical perspectives in the study of Politics

III. COMMUNICATION CAPABILITY


 Defend the significance of Political Science as an academic field
 Discuss the different concepts in political science
 Discuss the institution’s VMGO orally
IV. CULTURAL AND SOCIAL AWARENESS AND RESPONSIBILITY
 Acknowledge the complex nature of Political Science as an academic field
 Develop one’s ability in giving honor and dignity to the State as a citizen of
the Philippines.

V. CHRISTIAN CHARACTER
 Practice the following values: faith in God, appreciating the history of the
Philippines, fairness in judgment, will power, and positive attitudes toward
negative experiences.
 Show Christian core values most especially the love for God, forgiveness of
sins, unconditional love, and renunciation of violence while dealing with the
different facets of the teaching and learning process

VI. ETHICAL AND RESPONSIBLE USE OF TECHNOLOGY


 Assume responsibility and proper handling of school equipment and property.
 Exhibit intellectual honesty and stewardship in the use of technology in the
learning process
 Develop patriotism, nationalism and the love to citizenry and the State.
 Active awareness on socio-political conditions.

VII. GENDER RESPECT


 Manifest respect for different genders in one’s speech and action.
 Appreciate differences in the nature of genders while at the same time
acknowledging equality in abilities and potentials.
 Value the contributions of all persons, regardless of gender.
