F. Activities and Assessment

1. In what specific ways can you contribute to the attainment of the DepED
mandate in the following areas?

Implementation of policies, plans, programs and projects in:

Formal Basic Education:
As a teacher, contributing to policy, plan, program, and project
implementation is at best with living up to my responsibilities as a facilitator,
teacher, educator, and a curricularist that employs the written, and taught
curriculum of the Department of education, by treating my students as the top
priority, to fulfil their needs by providing better, disciplined, productive, and
meaningful learning, and inculcating in my students the value of good character
and conduct. I can further help to fulfil the mandate of the Department of
Education by keeping a healthy safe working environment, maintaining a
harmonious relationship with my colleagues, and keeping a stable and sustainable
institutional organization that advocates the values of a true Filipino.

Alternative Learning System:

As a teacher, contributing to policy, plan, program, and project
implementation is at best by providing the appropriate reinforcement that the
student needs, and executing a motivating work ethic, and instilling competence to
the learners.
2. What can you do as a beginning teacher to:
promote quality education?
As a beginning teacher, promoting a quality education would be best
effective by following the curriculum, assessing the students first; what are their
needs, their talents and capabilities, the intensity of their prior knowledge, and
from there, I will remploy the curriculum and provide a proper and meaningful
learning experience to my students, and further. Diagnostic and assessment for
learning is also important, wherein I can give myself a better view of the progress of
my students. With the assessment, I will know how far my students’ knowledge has
achieved, and I will also know whether my strategies and drills are effective.
Changes or further enhancement can then be implemented for a quality teaching-
learning process. It is also relevant for me to let my students learn metacognitively,
where they are made aware of the objectives of the lesson, so that they can set their
own expectations for themselves. In this manner, they can be more cooperative and
collaborative throughout the process. With the former assessments, I will employ
reinforcement to my students, when needed, in order to supply their needs more,
and end the confusions throughout the process, as the Department of Education
follows the principle of Socio-ciltural theory of Lev Vygotsky, also known as the
principle of the Zone of Proximal Development. By doing this, I can stimulate their
interest and bring them to their proximal capacity. A quality education is also best
achieved by integrating practical, social issues and resolve to the lessons, to
activate social responsibility among my students towards nation building.

make education accessible to all?

As a beginning teacher, I can uphold the “No One Left Behind” Policy by
accommodating and not hindering anybody from having formal education. This is
best executed by allowing persons with special needs be able to go to school and
not be denied of the right to education. Students that are aged higher than the
requirement shall never be recognized to be “too old” of the grade level.

3. Answer the following questions based on the readings above:

As a teacher, how do you encourage your students:

to discover their full potential that may contribute for the betterment of the society?
Helping my students discover their talents and reach their full potential is
one of my prime responsibilities as a teacher. This is best employed by providing
proper discipline throughout the teaching-learning process. I will provide better
learning experience to my students, for them to have enough room to discover
themselves, and their skills and talents, and help them achieve the honour by
keeping them competent in what they do, at all times. The Department of
Education have programs in all subjects that provide competition wherein students
are encouraged to join, in order to gain further experience. Encouraging my
students to allow themselves to engage in these programs would not only help them
gain competitive experience, but also be socially responsible, and be mediator of
nation building. Many students around the country has been known to have
acquired these competencies that helped them gain the honour. I will be a model to
my students by illuminating competence, excellence, innovation, creativity,
discipline and values to all my students, and to the rest of the community.

to apply the competencies prescribed in the curriculum?

Being a teacher is also being a curricularist. Responding to the demands of
the students and the mandate of the Department of Education is what I do. I will
apply the competencies prescribed in the curriculum. Reading comprehension,
Listening Comprehension, Viewing Comprehension, Vocabulary Development,
Literature, Writing and Composition, Oral Language and Fluency, and Grammar
Awareness are the competencies indicated in the curriculum designed by the
Department of Education. Reading Comprehension is best achieved by providing
literatures and other written texts (Filipino literatures) that will allow the students
exercise their reading and understanding skills. Listening Comprehension is best
exercised by allowing them listen to multimedia presentations, and assess their
learning. Vocabulary Development is best exercised by allowing the students write
articles or assigning them to read articles and texts, and reinforce them with terms
that they are confused with or do not know the meaning, They can later use their
knowledge by letting them write their experience while learning, by using the
newly-introduced words in their writing. Literature is best employed by providing
stories with great historical, cultural, and artistic relevance to the country and to
the lives of the Filipinos. As a teacher, I would not only introduce these literatures,
but also highlight the lessons and values that can be learned. I will employ all of
these by providing appropriate, effective, and efficient teaching strategies and
instructional materials that best serve te\he curriculum on a daily basis.

to reflect and evaluate their home- and culture-based values?

I am a second mother to my students, therefore I believe instilling good
character in my students is one of my responsibilities. I will do this by integrating
cultural awareness, civic, political, and environmental responsibility, religious
sensitivity, and respect towards race in the lessons inside the classroom as long as
possible. Setting a good example of respect to the students would also be of great
help. It is also best by keeping a healthy environment by making my students
always mindful of what they say towards their classmates, what they do, and how
they communicate with each other. Concerning with literature, I will always let my
students reflect on the values that can be grasped from the characters that are on
the literatures I give them.

Which among your specific roles/functions as a teacher can signify your

responsibility among your students and people in the community?

I am a teacher by profession, an educator by passion. I teach, educate,

discipline, train, inspire, motivate, and create abled students that will take the
responsibility in handling the society well; students that will execute good
character and execute bullying, racism, and terror among themselves and towards
others; students that will value the worth of nature; students that will respect and
protect the flag, and the citizenry as a nation, and students that will uphold the
words of God. I am a facilitator inside the classroom that manages maintains, and
controls the teaching-learning process; a process that the Department of Education
mandates, the society demands, and what my students needs. And these students
are what make up the society. It is me, being an educator as a role, signifies my
responsibility towards my students and to the rest of the community.

What plans do you have as a teacher to achieve the learner-centered philosophy?

I plan to
What can you do to better serve the learners in relation to learner-centered
philosophy?
It is best for me to assess what are the needs of my students, what are their
skills and talents, and see to it what the kind of students the community needs. By
getting to know more of my students, I can employ better teaching strategies and
instructional materials for a meaningful teaching-learning process. It is also best
for me to get to know better the curriculum, and as a teacher, I should know with
the highest proficiency with regards to the lessons that should be taught, and the
competencies that the students should achieve. Also, to better serve the mandate of
the Department of Education on a learner-centered philosophy it is best achieved
with the proper and consistent communication with the parents, and a harmonious
communal policies that will help and protect the students inside and outside the
school premises.
How can you foster partnership and extend linkages to your stakeholders?
A school cannot stand on its own . The institution needs a backbone and a
supporting force that would keep the mission and vision of the school working. By
this, the school works with the stakeholders and keeps the partnership effective. As
a teacher, local government, policy makers, parents association, private sector,
other groups, and individual personalities should be made aware of the
endeavours, milestones, and successes of the institution through quarterly
conventions, board meetings, and reports or formal accounts of the school. As a
teacher, I support to allow the policy makers and implementers to intervene with
the institutional policies and the policies of the community to help the school
protect the students. Throughout the years, local governments have been
supporting the endeavours of schools, and I support to provide recognition for
these groups and personalities that help the school provide its service.
4. Students learn in a child-friendly, gender sensitive, safe, and motivating
environment.

What can you contribute to ensure a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe, and

motivating environment?
I can contribute to ensure a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe, and
motivating environment by providing proper guidance to my students, giving them
the body of knowledge that they need as competent ones, inculcating respect and
making them aware of what they do, what they should do, what is right and what is
not, and by setting myself as a good example to my students. I will uphold
cooperation and collaboration within the four-cornered walls of my classroom,
wherein bullying and racism is prohibited. I will create an atmosphere for students,
healthy enough that they can discover themselves, and their peers, encounter
mistakes and learn throughout, and provide and supporting mechanism that will
inspire my students to learn, and acquire competence, character, and discipline.

How do you address the uniqueness of each learner?

I address the uniqueness of each learner by employing different teaching
strategies and instructional materials such as visual aids, multimedia
presentations, and hand-outs that will help my students learn productively. This is
achieved with the use of appropriate materials that best fit the lesson, and
providing different avenues in teaching, such as reading, listening, hearing,
comprehension, and writing.

How do you ensure an enabling and supportive environment for effective learning
to happen?
I ensure an enabling and supporting environment by illuminating confidence
in teaching, applying proper reward and punishment system towards my students,
and providing proper reinforcement when needed. I provide them with a mearning
environment that enables my stuents to discover their talents and reach their full
potential. I provide support towards the learners by letting my students set their
own standards and the goals they want to achieve with the lesson. With the use of
the reward-punishment system, I encourage my students to be always competent
with what they do and not abhor their mistakes for it is when they commit
mistakes that they can learn more meaningfully.
What are some ways to develop lifelong-learners?
Learners that value the complexity of life and situations are learners that
consider learning as a life-long or gradual process. As a teacher, I develop these
students to become one by teaching them how to value experience, good or bad,
rewarding or not.

III. SESSION 3 TEACHING AS A PROFESSION AND AS A

VOCATION
Pre-Test
Read the paragraph below then choose three phrases that best describe your
own philosophy in the teaching profession. Justify your answer.

1. Teaching is a noble profession as well as a vocation that calls to the heart of an

individual. The teacher plays a vital role in the lives of the learners, hence they are
called heroes of the new generations. They touch lives and influence others—
making a big difference to the lives of the learners. Teachers should take pride in
upholding the qualities of being a professional and to live according to the
expectations of teaching as a profession and as a vocation.

a. Phrase 1: Teaching is a noble profession as well as a vocation that calls to the

heart of an individual.
b. Justification: Teaching continues to be the noblest profession ever existing.
Teaching makes everything persist to exist, from all corners of the society. Teaching
keeps the balance and puts everything in place. Without the teaching profession,
science and technology, grammar, engineering and architecture, public
administration, social awareness, and history and religion would never continue to
existm which would put the social order in jeopardy. The type of globalized world
that we have now, improved and evolving, is the result of an evolving system of
educational processes all around the globe. The environment, politics, technologies
and infrastructures, history and religion, continue to affect the lives of the people
because of the appropriate rapport of education towards these different phases of
the society. At the same time, teaching is a passion that keeps the inspiration
burning, illuminating inspiration towards the students that would motivate them to
become abled, excellent, competitive, and disciplined students of the society.
Without passion, a teacher would never be encouraged to go to school and teach
and educate young, innocent, unique and vulnerable minds with only a meagre
salary and continue to do it every day.

c. Phrase 2: heroes of the new generations

d. Justification: Teaching as the noblest profession, teachers are now, with greatest
pride, become the new heroes of the new frontier. Keeping the balance in the
society is not easy, to meet the demands and needs of the students and the
community is a difficult task, but teachers continue to fulfil their responsibilities
day by day. Teachers serve the community, not treating their salary as the reward.
Teachers have to deal with the same struggle every day; facing different
personalities simultaneously, and is entitled to train, motivate, and educate the
students. Waking up early, and spending most of the time with the students,
assessing and recording data, implementing the curriculum is what the teachers do
aside from all the other tasks that they attend to and wish to do. Some teachers
even face even more difficult situations, considering there are schools from far-
flung areas that has problems with access in electricity, classrooms and facilities,
and schools that are in places with political and other conflicts, yet teachers
continue to serve. At the greatest sense, teachers face the responsibility of creating
the minds of tomorrow. What the society somehow mirrors the kind of education
the people receive, therefore, there is a great responsibility of the teachers to keep
the future of the nation in good hands. The failure of the society is the failure of the
educational institution, and other factors that lead to the disruption. And teachers
continue to fight, struggle, and sacrifice just to serve and fulfil their responsibilities
to give the nation young minds that are ready to lead and respect the flag, students
that will value peace and camaraderie, and learners that will prioritize discipline.

e. Phrase 3: touch lives and influence others

f. Justification: It is common to hear among children to wish to be teachers
someday. This justifies the inspirational duty that teachers put in the job, in the
light of profession and passion. Every day, teachers illuminate strength, ability,
confidence, and inspiration. Every person, successful or still aspire to be, in any
career, always has his/her teacher where he/she root/s on. There’s always a
teacher behind the camera that fuels the confidence of an individual. The struggles
and success of teachers are enough to inspire everyone. Working the enire day at
late at night just to be competitive and confident in teaching is enough to inspire
everyone to be competitive and confident in everything they do. Working very hard
without getting paid mush is enough to remind everyone that passion still
overpowers profitability. Illuminating courage, love, passion, and patience is
enough to inspire the students and colleagues to keep the attitude and character
while fulfilling their responsibilities.

Activities and Assessment

Activity 1. Answer the following:

1. What is a profession?
A profession is an occupation that involves specialized training and formal
qualification.
2. Is teaching a profession? Why?
Teaching is a profession, having scientific, specialized, and formal training to
achieve the desired qualifications. To be a teacher, one has to satisfy the
requirements and standards set by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC)
such as passing the Licensure Examinations for Teachers (LET) first, become a
member of the Philippine Public School Teachers’ Association (PPSTA) former
National Organization of Professional Teachers (NOPT) and earlier known as the
Philippine Association for Teacher Education (PAFTE), attend to seminars,
workshops, conferences, and other activities that enhance the knowledge and skills
to continuously grow in profession, following the mandate of Republic Act no.
10912, an Act Mandating the Continuing Professional Development Program for All
Regulated Professions, creating the Continuing Professional Development Council,
and must abide by the code of ethics for the profession. It becomes a profession,
with the right conduct of the specialized training and proper implementation of the
knowledge and expertise, abiding to all the policies, regulations, and laws of the
Department of Education, in strict consideration of the standards and
qualifications one must acquire to fulfil.

3. What are the requisites by the PRC one should satisfy before he/she becomes a
professional?
To be a teacher, one has to satisfy the requirements and standards set by
the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) such as passing the Licensure
Examinations for Teachers (LET) first, become a member of the Philippine Public
School Teachers’ Association (PPSTA) former National Organization of Professional
Teachers (NOPT) and earlier known as the Philippine Association for Teacher
Education (PAFTE), attend to seminars, workshops, conferences, and other
activities that enhance the knowledge and skills to continuously grow in profession,
following the mandate of Republic Act no. 10912, an Act Mandating the Continuing
Professional Development Program for All Regulated Professions, creating the
Continuing Professional Development Council, and must abide by the code of
ethics for the profession.

4. What are the qualities of a professional teacher?

A professional teacher must have a deep understanding of the theoretical
knowledge about learning and human behaviour. It has been said that: “The best
indicator of successful teaching is learning. Learning is a human behavior.
Theoretical knowledge about learning and human behavior is a strong foundation
that should serve to guide your actions as a teacher. Newly hired teachers like you
often find it difficult to internalize, translate and apply theoretical knowledge you
learned in college to the solution of practical problems. You should use your
knowledge of teaching and learning theories to interpret situations and solve
problems that you meet in the classroom events. Your dilemma as a new
professional teacher is not that the theories you have learned are not workable but
that they are difficult to interpret in order to solve practical problems.” Further, a
professional teacher demonstrates attitudes that foster learning and genuine
human relationship. The major categories of attitudes that affect teacher
behaviour are (a) teacher’s attitudes toward himself/herself; (b) teacher’s attitudes
toward children; (c) teacher’s attitudes toward peers, superiors, and parents; and
(d) teacher’s attitudes toward the subject. A teacher must have a positive attitude
towards himself. A teacher has to feel confident and understand himself fully to be
able, equipped, and ready to take on the responsibility, to understand and be
patient with the students, and cope up with the complexity of the situation, the
lessons, and the responsibility ahead. A teacher must have an empathic behaviour
towards students. Such empathy would motivate students to cooperate and
collaborate to achieve a better rapport. A teacher must have a positive attitude
towards peers, colleagues, superiors, and parent. A teacher is entitled to making a
healthy, and productive environment towards others as part of the team. A teacher
must have a positive outlook towards the subject matter. A teacher is entitled to
master the lessons to be taught. The motivation to teach will help the students
have the motivation to learn. He has to illuminate passion to inspire the students
to be passionate enough in mending the pieces of the body of knowledge together
for a meaningful learning. To be a professional teacher is to have the attitude of
mastery of the subject matter. This means mastery of the subject matter content
and the judicious selection of the learning resources to be used to teach the subject
matter. Curriculum content must be appropriate to the objectives and the
educational level of the learners. It is, therefore, necessary that the professional
teacher must have a thorough understanding of the school curriculum, its content,
learning experiences and the evaluation of the learning outcomes. A professional
teacher must possess competencies in the use of teaching skills that facilitate
student learning; able to choose the appropriate teaching methodology or pedagogy
for your subject matter, and develop teaching skills which will foster student
learning. The recognition of multiple intelligences by Howard Gardner challenges
the creativity and multiple talents of teachers in order to match those of the
students. A teacher must be knowledgeable enough to employ appropriate teaching
strategies and utilize instructional materials appropriate for the teaching-learning
process.

5. What is a vocation?
A vocation is a calling to and from the heart of an individual. A profession can be a
vocation as well but can also be a choice made from different criteria. A vocation
cannot be denied; it burns in the heart and soul of a person and cannot be
quenched until it is answered, whereas a profession can be chosen based on family
demands, income, status, or location. A teacher who practices teaching as his or
her vocation responds to the strong feeling, or calling for service just like the
historic biblical figures. Additional rewards for teaching are difficult to find,
and yet a vocational teaching does not pursue the rewards, but only the
passion to fulfil the mission of educating these minds.

6. How is vocation different from profession?

Vocation is different to profession as to teaching is different from educating.
Some teach, and treat it as means of occupation, and never was passionate in
educating the learners. A vocation cannot be denied; it burns in the heart and soul
of a person and cannot be quenched until it is answered, whereas a profession can
be chosen based on family demands, income, status, or location. A teacher who
practices teaching as his or her vocation responds to the strong feeling, or calling
for service. Vocation always illuminates passion in the work, the motivation to
reach the goals. It is some system that the persons holds that keeps everything in
place: power to succeed, will to persevere, and passion to enjoy the job. They say,
one will never get tired of doing what he is doing when it is always done with fun
and joy. The joy to teach is what makes up a vocation. Undeniably, there are some
that enter the teaching world to satisfy factors that poses demands to teach.

7. When can teaching be a vocation?

Teaching becomes a vocation when a teacher teaches with all of his will to
achieve all the mandate of the Department, the school, and the community with
passion. This happens when a teacher is willing to sacrifice just to serve the
learners and give them the chance to be abled individuals ready to take on what
challenges the world might bring. Teaching becomes a vocation when a teacher
sacrifices his safety just to cross gushing rivers just to reach far-flung schools and
meet the students, waiting for his return. Teaching becomes a vocation when a
teacher risks himself, going to conflict-prone areas just serve the students.
Teaching becomes a vocation when a teacher does not give up on his students no
matter what the circumstances are. It is a vocation when a teacher reminds himself
that what he does is not for him, but for the students who wish to be successful
and free from poverty. It becomes a vocation when a teacher does not stop from
learning and allowing himself to continue to value the experiences he had, and is
excited to take the next day with excitement. Teaching becomes a vocation when a
teacher takes pride in seeing his students succeed and become what he wants to
be.

8. What are the characteristics of a teacher who takes teaching as a vocation?

A teacher who takes teaching as a vocation is a teacher that has patience,
will-power, confidence, competence, excellence, and discipline; A teacher that is
willing to go on another day after a bad one, a teacher patient enough to not give
up on them, a teacher that’s ready to sacrifice things, money, and time just to
attend to the needs of the students. teacher who takes teaching as a vocation is a
teacher that challenges himself to be better each day, conscious enough that his
students depend on him. He is passionate, driven, and faithful to the students.

1. In what career stage are you now as a teacher?

2. In what career stage do you situate yourself 10 years from now?
3. What professional development activities would you engage in to achieve your
desired career stage?

Answer the questions that follow.

1. What are the different career stages of teachers?
Levels of professional development for teachers, which happen in a
continuum—from beginning to exemplary practice that articulate developmental
progression, develop refine their practice, and respond to the complexities of
providing quality basic education. The first Stage is the Career Stage 1 or
Beginning Teachers. In this stage, teachers are already recognized to have gained
the qualifications for entry into the profession. The next stage is the Proficient
Teachers Stage, where teachers at this stage are already professionally independent
in the application of skills important to the teaching and learning process. The
third stage is the Highly Proficient Teachers. In this stage, teachers consistently
display a high level of performance in their teaching practice. The last stage is the
Distinguished Teachers. Teachers in this stage embody the highest standard for
teaching grounded in global best practices.
2. How will you go to the next higher career stage?
I will go to the next stage, ensured that I already possess concrete,
observable, and measurable teachers/behaviours or practices that shall be covered
in every dimension set by the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers
(PPST).
3. Is it possible for a beginning teacher to stay in 1 career stage for 5–10 years?
Why or why not?
It is possible for a teacher to stay in one career stage for 50-10 years, as long
as the teacher does not exhibit the concrete, observable, and measurable
teachers/behaviours or practices that shall be covered in every dimension set by
the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). A teacher can only go to
the higher career stage, with the fulfilment of the indicators that are set for the
stage.
C. What I Learned
What are the seven domains of the PPST? Discuss each domain briefly based on
your own understanding.

Domains Brief Discussion

Content Knowledge and Pedagogy Teachers recognize the relevance of their
mastery of the content knowledge and
its interconnectedness within and
across curriculum areas, coupled with a
sound and critical understanding of the
application and critical understanding of
the application of theories and principles
of teaching and learning.
-
Diversity of Learners This domain highlights the central role
of teachers in establishing leaning
environments that are responsive to
learner diversity, knowledge and
understanding of, and respect for
learners’ diverse characteristics and
experiences as inputs to the planning
and design of learning opportunities.
This domain emphasizes the celebration
of diversity in classrooms and the need
for teaching practices that are
differentiated to encourage all learners
to be successful citizens in a changing
local and global environment.
-
-
-
-

1. What is the difference between domains and strands, and strands and
indicators?
Domains are broad conceptual sphere of teaching and learning practices,
defined by specific strands in the set of Professional Standards for Teachers
(PPST), while strands are more specific dimensions of teacher practice under
every domain in the set of professional standards for teachers-in contrast to
indicators, which are concrete, observable, and measurable teacher
behaviors/practices covered in every strand in the set of professional standards for
teachers
2. Why do we need to set standards for teachers?
We need to set standards for teachers I order to meet the demands of the
learners. The knowledge of the students dependently exists with the content
knowledge of the teachers. This is to ensure a sustainable basic education and
make sure that the teachers maintain or improve their level of proficiency, teaching
practice, professional development, and become competent in the teaching service.
A teacher who knows what he is supposed to do, should be able to do, one that
treasures values and competence, has improvised quality learning plans, will
always yield students that possess the same characteristics. And keeping these
standards help us keep track of the progress of the teaching principles, improve the
educational standards, programs and policies, and ensure a quality education of
students.
3. As a beginning teacher, which do you consider as the most important among the
seven domains? Justify your stand.
D. What I Do
Read thoroughly Domain 1 Content Knowledge and Pedagogy particularly the
three indicators in the beginning and proficient teachers. Answer the
questions that follow.

Which of the indicators can you confidently say you are doing?

1. Which of the indicators are you NOT doing yet?

2. What do you notice about the indicators from beginning to proficient teacher?

Differences in indicators from beginning to proficient teachers show that a

beginning teacher is only able to show his capacity to demonstrate content
knowledge and application within or across curriculum teaching areas,
demonstrate understanding towards research-based knowledge and principles of
teaching and learning, and show skills in the positive use of the Information
Communication Technology to facilitate the teaching and learning process. The
indicators show that beginning teachers are likely to possess these qualities,
ddifferent from proficient teachers, where these teachers were not only able to
demonstrate but apply, in the practical sense the knowledge of content within and
across curriculum teaching areas, use research-based knowledge and principles of
teaching and learning to enhance professional practice, and ensure the positive use
of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) to facilitate the etaching and
learning process. As observed, proficient teachers are likely to not only possess the
proficiency, but apply the knowledge and skills needed, which makes it higher than
the former one.
D. Read the following teaching practices. With all honesty, choose your
answer by ticking (/) the box that corresponds to your answer.
A- Always S- Sometimes N- Never
How often do you do the following in your teaching practice?

Indicators A S N
1.Demonstrates content knowledge and its application within
and /or across curriculum teaching areas 

3.Demonstrates knowledge of strategies that promote reading and 
numeracy skills
4.Applies teaching strategies that develop critical and creative 
thinking and/or other higher order thinking skills

nonverbal classroom communication strategies that support
learner understanding, participation, engagement, and
achievement.
6.Uses Mother Tongue, Filipino, and English to facilitate teaching 
and learning
7.Demonstrates understanding of research based knowledge and 
principle of teaching and learning

E. What I Realize
Read thoroughly Domain 3 Diversity of Learners particularly the three
indicators in the beginning and proficient teachers. Answer the questions that
follow.

1. What teaching practices do you think are responsive to the call of the indicators
in Domain 3 to address diversity of learners?
Using differentiated, developmentally appropriate learning experiences to
address learners’ gender, needs, strengths, interests and experiences, establishing
a learner-centered culture by utilizing teaching strategies that respond to the
linguistic, cultural, socio0-economic and religious backgrounds, and designing,
adapting and implementing teaching strategies that are responsive to learners with
disabilities, giftedness and talents: these are the indicators that I think are
adequate and responsive in addressing diversity of learners.
2. To address learner diversity, what teaching practices would you employ to enable
you to move from beginning to the proficient career stage?
As a teacher, technicalities are important to achieve the indicators set by the
standards of Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). I will continue
to assess my students, formative, diagnostic, and summative to keep on track on
the improvements and difficulties of my students. I will employ teaching strategies
and use instructional materials that will motivate my students to cooperate and
collaborate throughout the teaching-learning process. I will set my own
professional goals, set my own strategies and principles in teaching, create a good
plan for learning outcomes that are aligned with the instructional objectives, exude
brilliance and proficiency in teaching, and continue to reinforce my students with
the needed guidance. I will apply all the principles and theories I have learned
throughout my experience, design teaching plans that will serve the best interest of
students and the curriculum, and establish a good rapport towards the teaching
and learning process.
Reflection
As a teacher, what are the indicators under beginning stage that you can do? Is it
possible that you can move to the higher career stage? Knowing where you are,
what professional development goals could you prepare based on your strength and
areas for improvement?

I can show my capacity to demonstrate content knowledge and application

within or across curriculum teaching areas, demonstrate understanding towards
research-based knowledge and principles of teaching and learning, and show skills
in the positive use of the Information Communication Technology to facilitate the
teaching and learning process. I believe that possessing these indicators will help
me move to the higher career stage, by continuing the teaching process with
consistency and excellence, and allow myself to learn and develop more. For further
improvement, I aspire to consistently display a high level of performance, manifest
in-depth and sophisticated understanding of the teaching and learning process, be
adept in the problem-solving skills, optimize opportunities, provide support and
healthy environment with colleagues, and develop a professional knowledge and
practice by reflecting to my needs, the needs of my colleagues, and of my students.

D. My Gains
Answer the questions that follow.
1. What did you learn about professional development? What is the connection
between personal growth and professional development?
Professional development is process that focuses on improving the
competencies of personnel in line with their mandated roles and responsibilities in
order for them to achieve expected standards (MPPD 2010). It is what a teacher
always attends to as a professional, to keep the development and competence, and
acquire growth within the teaching practice.
2. How does professional development affect your teaching performance?
A quality teaching performance is an improved professional development.
Keeping on track of the development is keeping the proficiency, competence, and
sophisticated outlook to the teaching process. When professional development is
optimally achieved, the teacher develops the responsibility of recognizing and
reflecting on the career goals, skills, knowledge and experience that can yield to a
productive, competitive, and excellent teaching practice that will give the students
the greatest benefit, continuing to serve the mandate of the Education for All.
3. Would you recommend these professional development activities to your
colleagues? Why or why not?
I would certainly recommend these professional development activities to my
colleagues. I believe that it is important to gain development with my co-teachers so
as to achieve a balance and observed reflective activities that will give me a non-
biased assessment of myself. Keeping a healthy environment with my colleagues is
also important, since the teaching process is not a sole responsibility of the
teacher, but of the entire department as a teaching force that initiates, plans,
develops, recommends, adapts, contributes, and practice to achieve the highest
standard in teaching and exhibit exceptional capacity to teach as whole.
E. Beginning with an End in Mind
Knowing your own strengths and weaknesses, draw a professional development
road map. Make this activity an illustration of your personal journey, and how you
view yourself 6 years from now.
Here’s what’s required on the road map:
The first stop on the road map should be your entry to public school system;
you can decide how the map “ends” in 10 years from now.

There should be five other “stops” on the map, representing different key
concepts that could help or hamper your journey in achieving professional
development. They may be experiences that you have or have yet to experience.
Record three major future events that you hope will happen on your road map.
Indicate on your map your age when you want these things to happen. (Possible
examples- graduating from graduate school, getting promoted, implemented
innovations, and improved teacher development stage etc.)

The map should have small illustrations of each event—this can be a symbol,
picture, magazine cut-out, clip art, etc.

The map should be in color! How you decorate and map out your professional
growth journey is up to you.

It is the responsibility of the teacher to keep a healthy, professional

generation that would take on the world, equipped, and competent.

more about their students, the result would bring a favourable impact to

This is why teachers should always keep an environment, conducive for
learning; an environment that would allow the students discover their talents
and reaches their full potential, discover what they were mean to be and do,
discover the complexity of life, and understand and reflect from their
experiences, being students. The efforts of a teacher would motivate the
students to do better, become better, abled individuals same as their teacher.
When the teaching strategies, instructional materials and instructional
decisions match the goals of the students, it can be deemed that the purpose
and the standard of quality learning is achieved. Teachers should always be
reminded that the profession they take is a crucial turning point of making
the community and the rest of the society work in progress, harmony, and
