For some reason the request/form ended up in the jail/booking and a patrol deputy forwarded the request/form to our HR box for processing. Ms, DeLeon from HR stated that she would be completing the request asap. Ms; DeLeon further confirmed that a recent incident | was involved in off-duty, of my own consequence has come toa final disposition and | now have a written reprimand in my file. Ms. DeLeon stated that the reprimand was going to be forwarded with the request to WCSO. "This incident occurred after turning in my PHS to WCSO for review. To: Investigator From: Applicant Lorenzo Hernandez Jr. “PLEASE UPDATE: Personal History Statement (PHS) PG 13 - SECTION 5, 26. Synopsis of incident: While off duty | had my primary duty weapon (handgun) on my person, concealed in an over the shoulder carrying case/"fanny pack like.” and | went out for dinner and upon sitting down to eat | took off the case and placed it on the backrest of a chair \was sitting on directly next to me. After eating we cleared the restaurant and | unintentionally left the case with the handgun inside on the chair. After the restaurant we went next door to another store for a quick dessert then directly home. The next morning getting ready for shift work it was then | realized my case ‘along with my handgun inside was missing and no longer in my possession. limmediateiy contacted my supervisors and made them aware of my situation. They assumed | was joking as it has never been in my character to display such negligence. | again reiterated my situation and told them | was going to start contacting key holders for the restaurant and local PD. | first called the Bastrop Police Department directly to speak with an officer that had been working the night shift as they were just conducting shift change. I spoke with Set. Hamilton who advised they did recover a handgun the night prior matching the description of mine and location retrieved from where | had dinner with «Sgt. Hamilton advised that | was going to have to await evidence technicians to a before having the gun released back to me. Sat. Hamilton further suggested | get records from training to confirm for their end to close incident that the gun belonged to the Bastrop County Sheriffs Office and | was supposed to be in Possession of it. | confirmed and told him ! would be following up with BCSO training staff and get back with PD personnel as the morning went on. | called my supervisor back and directly informed him of the information he then stated he was going to be taking over possession of the gun and would contact me at a later time with further direction. Later that morning my supervisor contacted me and told me to meet him at the office so he could give me the gun back. "ater met with him just before noon, retrieved the gun and returned back to shift the next day. * Supervisors that dealt with the incident on that day: Sgt. Derek Key & Cpl. Shane Kasper met with Sgt. Derek Key and Patrol Captain AJ. Molinari a few days later in reference to the incident. Capt. Molinari directly informed me | had 10 days to appeal the matter before it was passed on to the Sheriff for final review and final disposition. Capt. Molinari stated he was in agreement with Sgt. Key of me being in violation of county policy and concurred with the recommendation of one day leave without pay, no further action. | directly informed both supervisors that ] was not going to be disputing/eppealing the incident as | was taking full responsibilty of the consequences from the incident. “Sgt. Key has been out on vacation and was only available via public service. On 05/23/2017 at approximately 1900 hours Sgt. Key notified me that he would be scheduling my leave without pay upon his return back to shift to complete ‘my reprimand. Sgt. Key stated that he received final notification from Captain Molinari via email that my incident was now finalized. | hope that this single incident does not clarify, project, nor confirm my overall character as a responsible, diligent, policeman. In my seven years of policing this is the first major incident that | have ever been involved in concerning serious liability to the public and most importantly the agency | am commissioned by and foremast represent. f further Clarification is needed in regards to my actions or anything concerning the incident please feel free to dig deeper, to simply have a better understanding of who | truly am. | sincerely realize that perception is everything and this incident could not have come at a worse time for me and future but I take full responsiblity for itand have from the ‘moment | realized what | had done.
