performance of the said control activities.
QUALIFICATION LEVEL : NC II
Upon completion of this module, the students/ trainees will be able to:

ASSESSMENT METHODS:
MODULE DESCRIPTOR : This unit covers the skills, knowledge and attitude required
when one decides to apply chemical control measures, after
thorough consideration of non-chemical alternatives within
the integrated pest management strategy. It involves
identification of the target pest and their natural enemies,
and other beneficial organisms, selecting the appropriate
pesticide, preparing for its safe application, actual
application, cleaning up after, and record keeping.
QUALIFICATION LEVEL : NC II
Upon completion of this module, the students/ trainees will be able to:
LO1. Identify target pests and their natural enemies, and other beneficial organisms
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Target insect pests, their natural enemies, and other beneficial organisms are
identified according to general classification, life cycle, behavior, signs and stage
of plant growth
2. Weeds, which warrant action, are identified according to general classification
and stage of plant growth
3. Target diseases are identified according to general classification, symptoms and
stage of plant growth
4. The supervisor, or the pest specialist, is consulted as required to validate
identification of target pests and their natural enemies according to farm work
procedures
5. Requirement for pesticide use is assessed as an option after consideration of
non-chemical alternatives within the IPM strategy

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Appropriate pesticide(s) is(are) selected based on target pest, pest and natural
enemy density, and level of severity/infestation in accordance with farm work
procedures
2. Pesticide(s) is(are) also selected based on the environment and other relevant
information in accordance with farm work procedures
3. Labels are checked according to requirements and specifications
4. Pesticide to be used is in accordance with legislations and regulations
5. OHS hazards are identified, risks assessed, controls implemented and reported
to the supervisor according to farm work procedures and OHS requirements

4. Site is cleaned according to established workplace procedures
5. Chemical spills are handled according to OHS requirements and environmental
regulations
6. Personal safety is observed according to OHS requirements
