CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

In this world, technology can change lives. Everyday people discover

different new ideas to solve a problem easier, (See Appendix A). This part of

innovation is applied to electronics. Measuring instrument is mostly used by

workers especially in the construction (See Appendix B). This study presents a

measuring tool that capable to measure the distance, volume and area fast after

the user is placed on the flat surface. With Laser Distance Measuring Tools, one

can achieve more accurate measurement readings especially at extended lengths

and in a shorter period of time. Laser distance measuring tapes are one of the

fastest and most accurate ways to collect measurements, especially if you have

multiple measurements to take during the same job or day (See Appendix C).

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Previously, when you measured a room, you would get your tape

measure. Standard tape measure can be hard to use. Often, you will need

helping from another person to get measure accurately and you maybe use a

third person service. As well, it will not retreat all the way if you get the tape

measure wet or dirty. In the past, the standard measuring tape does not give an

exact a result even on a flat surface. This old method of measurement conducts

a computation. Timely, to try getting the maximum accuracy with measuring tape,

you need two persons, or the tape will cause of headache your head. The old

fashion tape isn’t accurate. This old method of measuring causes more effort and

tiring, So the laser distance measure makes the measuring more efficient and

convenient to use. This device gives the measurement more accurate and easier

to use.

OBJECTIVES

The main purpose of this research is to design and develop a

portable laser distance meter that must be capable of measuring the distance of

an object through the use of m703A laser sensor. The specific objective of the

study are list down below:

 To design and develop a laser distance meter that will read and

display the measurement output and connects to the mobile phone

via Bluetooth.

 To create a portable integrated laser distance meter that

announces the output reading of the laser distance meter using text

to speech sensor.

 To use ANOVA(F-Test) statistical tool in determining the efficiency

of the integrated laser distance meter compared to the commercial

laser distance meter in measuring the distance of an object.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Measurement is necessary in everyday life. Even the very earliest

civilizations needed measurement for purposes of agriculture, construction, and

trade. People developed a tools that used in measuring, until they improved it in

a device that measure distance. In the industry, Laser distance meter is that

measure length used specifically in the construction field (See Appendix B).

These parameters are sufficiently needed in estimating and designing an

electrical design especially to those who work in construction field and the like.

This research study aims to determine the effectiveness of designing laser

distance measuring device that can measure the length. This study aims to

answer the following questions.

 Are the measurements accurate?

 How efficient the device?

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The scope and delimitation of the study is focused on integrating a

laser distance meter. The integrated laser distance meter will be compare to a

commercial laser distance that measure the displacement of an object. This

study is limited on measuring the distances using m703A laser sensor to provide

an accurate distance measurement. The output measurement can be read in

mobile phone via Bluetooth.

The laser distance meter has only limited up to 40 meter range

exceeding values will not be measured. The device unit is in meter. The device is

not capable of measuring the volume and area of an specific object. The laser

distance meter can only be connect in all mobile phone with Bluetooth.

APPENDIX A

In science or human geology, population growth is the expansion in the

quantity of people in a population. Many nations, incorporating numerous in Sub-

Saharan Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and South East Asia, have seen a

sharp ascent in populace since the finish of the Cold War. The dread is that high

populace numbers are putting further strain on normal assets, sustenance

supplies, fuel supplies, business, lodging, and so forth in a portion of the less

lucky nations. For instance, the number of inhabitants in Chad has at last

developed from 6,279,921 out of 1993 to 10,329,208 out of 2009 further

stressing its assets. Vietnam, Mexico, Nigeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the DRC are

seeing a comparable development in population.

Worldwide human population development adds up to around 83 million

every year, or 1.1% every year. The worldwide population has developed from 1

billion of every 1800 to 7.616 billion out of 2018. It is required to continue

developing, and gauges have put the aggregate populace at 8.6 billion by mid-

2050, at that point begin declining until 2100. Numerous countries with quick

population growth have low expectations for everyday comforts, while numerous

countries with low rates of population growth have exclusive requirements of

living.

APPENDIX B

A measuring tape is an adaptable ruler and used to quantify separate. It

comprises of a lace of material, plastic, fiber glass, or metal strip with direct

estimation markings. It is a typical estimating device. Its structure considers a

proportion of incredible length to be effortlessly conveyed in pocket or toolbox

and grants one to gauge around bends or corners. Today it is universal,

notwithstanding showing up in smaller than usual frame as a keychain dandy, or

trinket. Surveyors use measuring tapes in lengths of more than 100 m in the

construction field.

. Use of measuring tool in Construction

1. Find horizontal lengths (overhead) for determining rain gutter¹ length.

2. Measure distances from roads¹ and property lines to comply with local

building codes.

3. Determine amounts of structural materials (studs, plywood) needed for

construction.

4. Determine insulation requirements (volume needed).

5. Determine offsets needed for septic systems.

6. Determine trench, hole depth.

7. Determine amount of sheetrock to cover surfaces

APPENDIX C

With Laser Distance Measuring Tools, one can achieve more accurate

measurement readings especially at extended lengths and in a shorter period of

time. The longer that a measuring tape measure is extended, the harder it is to

get an accurate measurement. You have to worry about slack in the line or

applying too much tension on the tape and stretching or possibly even breaking

it. You have to line up the marks directly with the starting point. Even temperature

can affect your measurement when using traditional measuring tapes. Laser

distance measuring tapes are one of the fastest and most accurate ways to

collect measurements, especially if you have multiple measurements to take

during the same job or day.

Most laser distance measuring tools offer easy operation, and some

advanced models offer many more features and functions depending on what

you're wanting to accomplish. The distance measuring tool projects a laser which

looks very similar to that of a laser pointer. Simply point and press the button. It

will automatically measure to where the laser is pointed. With some models you

can select whether you want the length of the tool itself included in the

measurement or not, which is handy in situations where its advantageous to

have the rear of the unit against a wall or post for example. Most laser distance

measuring tools can manage basic calculations like addition, subtraction, area,

and volume. They can also store previous measurements, depending on the

model, into internal memory. Some laser measuring tools will track minimum and

maximum measurements. You can automatically transfer between different units

of measure such as feet, inches, tenths, meters, etc. And some lasers have a

built-in tilt detector to take measurements at an angle, ranging anywhere from

0% to 100%.
