Week 1

This mathematics worksheet provides exercises to help students learn about sequences. It begins with an example of finding the first 3 terms of a sequence given the nth term formula. Students are then asked to find the first few terms of sequences based on given nth term formulas. Additionally, students must find specific terms of sequences based on the nth term formula. Word problems at the end require students to apply their understanding of sequences to solve for missing terms and formulas. The overall goal is for students to gain practice identifying and solving for terms in numeric and word sequence problems.

MATHEMATICS GRADE-10

WORKSHEET NO . 2
Quarter 1, Week 1

Learning Competency: Generate Pattern

Topic: Finding the terms of a Sequence
Objective:
 Identify the terms of the given sequence.
 Solve the missing terms of the given sequence.
Overview:
By this time, you will learn more about sequences. A general term or nth term will be given to you and
you will be asked to give the next few terms. Frequently, a sequence has a definite pattern that can
be expressed by a rule or formula.

Example: Find the first 3 term of the sequence given the nth term.
an = 2n + 2

a1 = 2(1)+2 a2 = 2(2)+2 a3 = 2(3)+2

a1 = 2+2 a2 = 4 +2 a3 = 6 +2
a1 = 4 a2 = 6 a3 = 8

Answer: 4, 6, 8,…

Exercise A
Direction: Find the first 5 terms of the sequence given the nth term.
1.) an = n + 4 6.) an = 3n
2.) an = 2n - 1 7.) an = (-2)n

n
3.) an = 12 - 3n 8.) an = n+1
1
4.) an = 1 - 2n 9.) an = n – n

5.) an = 3n 10.) an = (-1) n+1 n

Exercise B
Direction:Find the indicated term of the sequence whose nth term is given by the formula.

n
1.) an = 3n + 4 a12 6.) an = n+1 a12

2.) an= n(n -1) a11 7.) an = (-1) n - 1 (n - 1) a25

2
3.) an= (-1) n - 1 n² a15 8.) an = ( 3 ) n a5

1
4.) an= ( 2 )n a8 9.) an = (n + 2)(n + 3) a17
2n+1
(−1 )
5.) an = 2n - 5 a10 10.) an = n2 a6

Test Yourself
Direction: Solve the following word problems.
1. The first term of an arithmetic sequence is equal to 6 and the common difference is
equal to 3.
a. find a formula for the nth term
b. find the value of the 50th term.
2. The first term of an arithmetic sequence is equal to 200 and the common difference
is equal to -10. Find the value of the 20th term.
3. An arithmetic sequence has a common difference equal to 10 and it 6th term is equal
to 52. Find the 15th term.
4. An arithmetic sequence has a its 5th term equal to 22 and its 15th term equal to 22
and its 15th term equal to 62. Find its 100th term.
