    I. Objectives

    At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

    a. define antonyms;
    b. identify the given word with its antonym;
    c. use antonyms in sentences .

    II. Subject Matter

    Materials: Pictures and Printed texts

    III. Procedures

    • Routine Activities

    • Review of the Past Discussion

    *There will be a brief review about synonyms.

    Synonyms- are words that mean the same or almost the same.

    Directions: Put an X mark beside the word that doesn’t belong to the group.

    1. youthful juvenile senile

    2. look believe stare

    3. squat relax rest

    4. fortune lack luck

    5. praise invite glorify


    A. Motivation

    The teacher will show the following pictures:

    The girl is sad. The girl is happy.

    Cindy’s room is clean. Jessa’s room is messy.

    The sky is dark. The sky is bright.

    Rico is tall. John is short.

    The family is rich. The family is poor.


    Follow- up questions:

    1. What have you notice in each pair of sentence/ picture?

    2. How about the underlined words?

    3. Does it have the same thought with the other sentence?

    4. Or are they opposite with each other?

    5. What do you call these words?

    B. Activity

    There will be words displayed in the board with missing pairs. The teacher will
    instruct the students to look for it under their chairs. Some will find word cards and
    some will find none.

    After the students find the cards, they will put it beside the corresponding
    antonym.

    C. Analysis

    The students will be asked if what is the opposite of:

    1. difficult (challenging, easy, demanding)

    2. relax (tense, chill, unwind)

    4. rapid (fast, speedy, slow)


    5. soft (gentle, cottony, rough)

    D. Abstraction

    Antonyms- are words that mean the opposite or nearly the opposite.

    examples: love- hate

    cry- laugh

    dark- bright

    quiet- loud

    healthy- sick

    The prefixes in-, un-, dis-, mis- and the suffix –less may be added to root
    words to form their antonyms.

    examples: tolerant- intolerant

    satisfactory- unsatisfactory

    comfort- discomfort

    lead- mislead

    thoughtful- thoughtless

    * The students will give more examples.

    E. Application

    1. Divide the class into four groups.

    2. Each group will be given an activity paper to work on.

    3. After, report it in class.

    Directions: Write an antonym from the word box to replace the underlined
    words.
