Since 9/11 security became more then before part of the gate procedures. ISPS
requirements changed significantly the access procedures to and from the terminals.
Besides more access control, modern terminals try to accelerate the throughput time
in the gate area. Additionally they want to optimize the number of gate clerks.
When using self service kiosks the driver can stay in his cabin and by consequence
most gate clerks can be replaced by a reduced number of centralized operators.
That’s the application domain where Camco’s products are built for.
1.2.2 Maintenance
1.2.3 Serviceability
From the slide out position it is easy to change
paper-rolls or to empty the badge collector.
1.3. Integration
1.3.1 Embedded CPU
At both sides of the dialog box structure, there is INOX 3156 ”bull bar” that protects
the component box significantly.
In some cases it can be interesting to add in front of the dialog box a concrete block
(jersey block) as an additional protection.
In order to address these concerns, console systems that are destined for use in
outdoor applications must be designed with the following considerations:
Models
• Touch reader
The “touch” model is able to read contactless cards from up to 5 cm distance.
The user should not touch the reader.
• Holder reader
The “Holder” model is needed when used in combination with a handscan
reader. A handscan reader writes back every time the new reading to the
Mifare card. This requires the Mifare card is immobilized during the writing
process.
Technology
Depending of the customer Mifare readers (read/write), Proximity readers (HID or
others), other RFID technology or a combination of both can be offered.
Thermal printing
Direct Thermal printing is the leading choice of printing
technology in outdoor consoles today since it is relatively
maintenance free and is well tested in un-manned
situations. The direct thermal printer is a type of printer
that applies heat directly to specially treated paper, labels
or tags to form the image or barcode.
Ink or toners
Direct thermal printers do not require additional
consumables such as toner or ink ribbon toner and thus
have less changeable parts, have a lower cost of long-term
ownership, and fit better into space critical applications.
Paper
The largest ongoing cost of printing receipts is the service calls for adding paper for
the printer. The only requirement is calculate the numbers of tickets to print a day to
evaluate the type roll that should be supported. Paper rolls can have a diameter up
to 250 mm, the length depends of the thickness of the paper.
Warm-up
Also, thermal printing technology provides for instant
printing on command. No warm-up time is required for
the first page or paper to print.
Presenter
The most important component in thermal printers is the
cutter and presenter. The presenter is a device that fits
in the front of the printer and allows it to print and cut
the entire document prior to delivery. This prevents
consumer contact with the printed page during the printing process and eliminates
the single largest problem occurrence of paper jams.
Rain cover
At seaside the rain can move horizontally. Therefore the printer module has a build-
in fan blowing air through the paper sleeve. This solution avoids water touching the
paper-end (wet paper gets bigger and get stuck in the printer).
Retractor
Also the model we implement has a retract unit that throws uncollected printouts in
a waste basket inside the console to avoid erroneous use of the receipt documents.
Door shutter
To prevent people putting things into the printer a mechanical shutter close the
outlet of the printer when not in use.
Temperature:
Operates between -0°C and 50°C, build for outdoor use.
Humidity between 10 and 80%
Some terminals use biometric hand scan readers. Camco has adapted the handscan
unit type ID3D-R to be used in an outside environment.
To ease the use of the handscan reader we exported the LED’s for feedback of the
position of the fingers to the frontpanel.
Typical problems are the echo sound. The sound from the
loudspeaker hits the side of the truck (only 0,5 meter
distance) and reflects back into the microphone.
Technical specifications:
• Camco designed VoIP SIP Intercom phone
• Beam forming small 2 microphone array, one micro picks up sound from
driver and a second picks up sound from the environment.
• The DSP processor calculates the difference between 2 micro’s and filter out
only the voice.
• DSP has acoustic echo cancellation up to 60db
• Noise suppression from 13 to 18db
• 120-3400Hz bandwidth, 12KHz sampling
Additional benefits
• The fact having a digital voice encoder allows interesting possibilities. At
several access points (for instance ARMG’s) a pre-recorded voice could help
the drivers to pay attention for certain things.
• Intercom connections can be re-routed on a flexible way to different
destinations. For instance operators can be dynamicly assigned certain kiosk-
lanes including the intercom calls.
POE switch
This is a POE switch or patchpanel + standard Ethernet switch specifically for
the Intercoms. The Intercoms get power from a separate power circuit via the
Ethernet CAT5 cabling.
Camera
The Intercom has the provision for a camera.
Description
Special attention has been given to the type
of LCD screen. There is a quite large offer of
panel LCD screens on the market however
when quality is taken in account only a few
met the needed specs.
Specifications:
Models
• External 15” touchscreen
This screen is proposed for kiosk where the trucker should be able to input
alphanumeric data (containernumber, bookingnumber,..)
Touchscreen
It took Camco a while before we found a perfect solution. Most tested technologies
failed at the sea-side because of aggressive weather. Finally we achieve very good
results with projected capacitive touchscreen technology from Zytronic.
• Infrared beam based solution can not be used in this environment, raindrops
are seen as fingers.
• Immunity to damage – unsurpassed impact, vandal, and scratch resistance.
• External environments – unaffected by dirt, moisture and rain.
• Operating temperature – ranges from –35ºC to +65ºC. Sub zero operation
may be enhanced by an integrated heater panel.
• Resistance to contamination – unaffected by harsh cleaning fluids.
• Shielded filters can be specified.
• Supports both RS232 and USB.
• Embedded controller – further enhances reliability and life expectancy.
• Projected capacitive touchscreen technology (Zytronic)
As LCD screens are used almost every kiosk needs an embedded CPU.
Specifications:
• Industrial design by Camco
• DIN Mountable
• Power Supply: 12V DC, 12 Watt
• CPU: Intel PXA270 520 Mhz (processor
used in most PDA’s)
• 128MB RAM, 32 MB Flash
• SD-Flash Port
• LCD Controller (high resolution)
• POE (power over Ethernet) and DC
• Watchdog (auto reboot)
• 100Mbit Ethernet
• 4xRS232 ports, LPT and 4 USB ports
• 2x Relays for driving barrier, traffic lights
and other
• Software: Linux or Windows CE
Some applications as handscan reader or the built-in 10” LCD panel’s needs adapted
front frames. The width is expressed in modules (2M, 3M or 4M), the pedestals are
available from 2 modules to 4 modules wide ( = standard).
Truckers model (Cab Height) (TF): this is the highest model as it has to be used
from the trucker’s cabine:
Car model (CF): Pedestals for cars, this is the lowest model
• ISPS Security Gates for non containers
• Employees parkings
• Service access
