Physical Education

Fall Semester 2020


Course Objective – Physical education focusing on the teaching of skills, the acquisition of knowledge and
development of attitudes through movement.
As a result of studying Physical Education, all students should be able to:
1. Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
2. Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and
performance of physical activities.
3. Participates regularly in physical activity.
4. Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
5. Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.
6. Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
Requirements-
Face to Face:
1. Dressing Out – Students are required to change clothes at the beginning and end of each period. If the
student does not they will lose 10 points for that day. Dressing out refers to a change of shorts, t-shirt,
sweat pants, and gym shoes. Tank tops and cutoff jeans are not permitted. All clothes must be sanitary and
worn properly. If you do not dress out you will walk around the perimeter of the playing field (Gym,
Track, Field, etc.)
2. Participation- Students are required to participate. If you sit at any time, stop playing the sport of the day,
or refuse to participate, you will receive a zero for participation for that day.
3. Tardies – Hillgrove High School Policy – See student handbook.
4. Locker Rooms – Students must change in their designated locker room.
DO NOT BRING VALUABLES TO CLASS!!!! You cannot have your phone out in class. Students
will not be permitted back in the locker room once it is locked. Students will have time to dress out and
shower before their next class.
5. Medical Excuses - If a student has a medical excuse from a doctor and cannot participate, the student is
required to do a written report on the unit being covered. They must still dress out. A note from a parent
does not exempt you from your daily participation grade! All medical excuses, parent notes and excused
absences can be made up on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:45 to 8:15 in the main gym. Days
must be made up within 2 weeks of excuse.
Digital Learning:
1. Participation: Students should actively participate when appropriate, keeping their camera on,
microphone muted (when not responding) and staying engaged throughout the course and instruction.
An activity log will count towards the participation grade, to ensure that you are meeting the minimum
daily requirements for activity while we are digital learning. This log will be reviewed weekly but
should be updated daily to ensure accuracy and consistency.
2. Assessments – We will have one assessment per week, reviewing the previous day(s) topics. We will
review the information before the assessment and resources will be posted
The final exam will consist of 100 points. The students grade will be determined by the number of points earned
divided by the number of possible points.
Grading Scale & Breakdown
A- 90-100 % B- 89-80 % C- 74-79 % D- 70-73 % F- 69 % & Below
Grading Percentages are as follows:
Participation, behavior, & 70%
assignments
Tests/Assessments 20%
Final 10%
