Article: The Most Complex Problem In Physics Could Be Solved By Machines With
Brains by Roger Melko (2017). Retrieved from https://qz.com/897033/applying-machine-
learning-to-physics-could-be-the-way-to-build-the-first-quantum-computer/ .
In this world full of technology, almost everything in this era use technology to
solve problems for a better future. From this article, the author said that he works in
computational quantum condensed-matter physics: the study of matter, materials, and
artificial quantum systems. According to him, when Google DeepMind defeated world
champion Lee Sedol in the ancient game of Go, this machine learning and artificial
intelligence could be a great help to the industry. Instead of hard-coding programs for a
specific singular task, machines should be taught to learn and adapt themselves for
different tasks at hand. The first thing that he is working on is the first true quantum
computer that harnesses the unique properties of the quantum world for information
processing. Quantum computers are supposed to greatly outperform their classical
counterparts on some difficult issues, such as cracking protocols for authentication. This
level of theoretical understanding could utimately lead to significant advances in
medicine, cybersecurity, communications, and more. It is also said in the article that just
as today’s Silicon Valley giants use machine learning in many aspects of chip production,
machine learning will be an integral part of the inevitable scientific and industrial
processes that lead to quantum computer. The way to solve some physic problems, the
researchers re-purposing existing machine-learning algorithms to “ remember “ the
characteristics f phases of matter just as algoritms learn to recognize the characterisics of
an image. This way is used to make them adapt to handle other complicated problems
occur nowadays, especially in problems involving quantum mechhanics. From this
interpretation, the conceptual breakthrough needed to design a new superconductor, or a
silicon substitute, or quantum bit, could spring from which applications would cause
technological revolutions. From this article, it can be concluded that for now, at Chess
and even Go, computer minds can be nice, but these are just the beginning of a much
larger revolution. What happens now shows that machine learning has the power to make
profound progress in science, technology and society.
